This post is from Friday Morning. Due to technical issues with Livejournal, I have not been able to post.

Greetings from Minneapolis! I'm writing this post from [livejournal.com profile] gotmoof's new iMac and I'm comfortably settled for the weekend. I left Brenham around 2:40pm yesterday after working the morning and then drove 3.5 hours to Dallas to fly here. I know that sounds odd. I do live 75 miles from Houston Bush and 100 miles from Austin Bergstrom; but when I booked this flight, it added $100-150 to the cost to fly out of those cities and they connected through Dallas where I would have a three-hour layover. Plus, add in the time to drive to either of the closer airports and I think I came out ahead.

The parking karma did not extend to my car being out of the elements while I am gone. When I made it to DFW Airport, the North Express Parking was full, so I went with the flow and parked in the southend Express Parking. The car is going to be covered in dust, but there's always a car wash. The process to get to the gate was painless; it was really freeing to not be traveling with a laptop. It's been 13 years since I did that and it was a lot less hassle. Our flight was delayed 40 minutes, but again I went with the flow, had some Taco Bell and chilled.

One musing on cells, crowded waiting areas and expectations of privacy ... Last evening, I heard every detail of a conversation by one businessman. Those of us who were forced to sit near him heard: 1) about his problems with the texture of the grass in his lawn. 2) How many of his co-workers were scum. 3) that he would simply have to turn down that first job offer of $127K and 4 ) Listen to him berate to his young teen daughter "Honey, quit crying, for god's sake it's only a cell phone!" I finally got fed up and stood the rest of the time. I've had people say to me .. "Excuse me, could I have some privacy here?" The answer is no. You are in a public place. My answer is, "Could I have some public, please"?

It's been a nice day. I had a terrific lunch with [livejournal.com profile] poohbearjim and [livejournal.com profile] gotmoof, though it was a bit later than expected because Tim had to get major service done to his car and have the brakes replaced. Ouch! Jim is handsome and articulate, warm and friendly. I knew beforehand I would like him. No surprise there ... only that the first meeting was so short.

After we picked up Tim's car, we headed to Target where we picked up [livejournal.com profile] perkk's birthday cake, tubs of ice cream and the fixins for my Kitchen Sink Chicken Salad. It was to be served tomorrow at the party, but is going to provide supper for the pre-party workers instead. Fine by me! At midnight, we're off to the Buffy, The Vampire Slayer Sing-a-Long and party day begins! Now, isn't that a great reason to be in Minneapolis for the third time in one year?

DAMN! I was supposed to go to that party for MY birthday celebration as well. But I had made other commitments as I thought the party was at night.

Sorry I missed you. I hope you enjoy Minneapolis. :-)

I had a great time! My only wish is that I could have shared more of it here on LJ as I went along. I couldn't post. [livejournal.com profile] gotmoof figured out a way for me to post through my email or this one wouldn't be here. I wasn't able to do a final edit, so there are a couple of typos. Sorry to have missed you. Last count for the party was 100 or so folks who came through the door and got name tags and signed the guest book.

When are you coming back through DFW? Perhaps we can grab dinner on your way back south.

I get in at 11am Sunday morning (today). I don't have the computer with me, so I'll have to take a raincheck.

I can not stand when people talk on their cel phones where I can hear them. It is so rude.

I want to invent a little device that I can use to scramble cel phone signals in my personal space. I think i would make a fortune!

I also like to answer any questions they post on their end of the phone conversation, just to mess with them.... hehehe

From the time I arrived until 6:30am this morning when I get ready to return, I was involved with activities at [livejournal.com profile] perkk's house. I've had very little sleep and it was hard traveling a long distance for such a short time, but I wouldn't trade it. The socialization will help me get through a few more months of Texas:)

HUGS!

Glad to hear you've been having a great time, pesky 'public' cell phoners notwithstanding.
'Kitchen Sink Chicken Salad' - try saying that real fast four times in a row :0) - sounds like something even non-cooks like me could deal with. Care to share the recipe?

It is .. it is ... I call it Kitchen Sink because there are so many ingredients. It's more an assembly than anything else:)

I use several cans of all white meat chicken, add canned turkey or ham, boiled eggs, pasta, green grapes, slivered almonds, sweet pickle relish, celery, white onion (all of the things that you would expect to be chopped, are chopped:), salt, pepper, mustard and light Miracle Whip. Sometimes, I substitute pineapple for green grapes.

I must say it was tasty and there wasn't a bit left from a huge vat I made, except for a separate bowl for Tim, as he doesn't like nuts in anything.

Hope you had a great weekend! I got home about 6pm from the trip. I am beat, but happy. I think I had a total of 12 hours sleep over three nights.

Oh my goodness... but then, mere sleep is probably no match for a really good trip, and worth the loss of zzzz's.

Thanks for the recipe - and here I thought it was something you had to prepare in the sink *grin*. Well it sounds yummy - and doable - so I'll have to try it.

Glad you got home safely and in a timely way... your travel endurance is something I admire !
HUGS!
