Three Times in One Year [Friday's Post]
Jun. 3rd, 2007 12:02 amThis post is from Friday Morning. Due to technical issues with Livejournal, I have not been able to post.
Greetings from Minneapolis! I'm writing this post from
gotmoof's new iMac and I'm comfortably settled for the weekend. I left Brenham around 2:40pm yesterday after working the morning and then drove 3.5 hours to Dallas to fly here. I know that sounds odd. I do live 75 miles from Houston Bush and 100 miles from Austin Bergstrom; but when I booked this flight, it added $100-150 to the cost to fly out of those cities and they connected through Dallas where I would have a three-hour layover. Plus, add in the time to drive to either of the closer airports and I think I came out ahead.
The parking karma did not extend to my car being out of the elements while I am gone. When I made it to DFW Airport, the North Express Parking was full, so I went with the flow and parked in the southend Express Parking. The car is going to be covered in dust, but there's always a car wash. The process to get to the gate was painless; it was really freeing to not be traveling with a laptop. It's been 13 years since I did that and it was a lot less hassle. Our flight was delayed 40 minutes, but again I went with the flow, had some Taco Bell and chilled.
One musing on cells, crowded waiting areas and expectations of privacy ... Last evening, I heard every detail of a conversation by one businessman. Those of us who were forced to sit near him heard: 1) about his problems with the texture of the grass in his lawn. 2) How many of his co-workers were scum. 3) that he would simply have to turn down that first job offer of $127K and 4 ) Listen to him berate to his young teen daughter "Honey, quit crying, for god's sake it's only a cell phone!" I finally got fed up and stood the rest of the time. I've had people say to me .. "Excuse me, could I have some privacy here?" The answer is no. You are in a public place. My answer is, "Could I have some public, please"?
It's been a nice day. I had a terrific lunch with
poohbearjim and
gotmoof, though it was a bit later than expected because Tim had to get major service done to his car and have the brakes replaced. Ouch! Jim is handsome and articulate, warm and friendly. I knew beforehand I would like him. No surprise there ... only that the first meeting was so short.
After we picked up Tim's car, we headed to Target where we picked up
perkk's birthday cake, tubs of ice cream and the fixins for my Kitchen Sink Chicken Salad. It was to be served tomorrow at the party, but is going to provide supper for the pre-party workers instead. Fine by me! At midnight, we're off to the Buffy, The Vampire Slayer Sing-a-Long and party day begins! Now, isn't that a great reason to be in Minneapolis for the third time in one year?
