I'm happy today! My friends David and Stan flew in from the Bay Area yesterday to see "Man of La Mancha". It was a solid Sunday evening performance and both of them praised the show to the hilt (and the Padre:) Ah - the totally objective comments of your close friends! LOL!

David has seen me do most of my major work since 1991, so he does have a frame of reference. I do believe this is some of my best work, so in this case, I do objectively agree with their assessment.

We are going to spend the afternoon together, have lunch down on the Pier if weather permits and then they are flying back to SF. The trip was planned as a continuation of my landmark birthday in late March. They were in Hawaii on my birthday and called, but promised that the day would be celebrated in person. Such good friends to keep such a promise... I cherish that! A shout-out to David and Stan!

I am truly humbled by the continuing gestures of love, the loyalty and thoughtfulness of my "family of choice", my circle of dear friends. Let the birthday season continue!

I play Padre Perez. I get to sing the solos, "To Each His Dulcinea" and "The Psalm" (in Latin); the trio and quartet reprise of "I'm Only Thinking of Him"; and in "Golden Helmet of Mambrino" and featured in the final "The Impossible Dream". It is a challenging role vocally and goes from gentle controlled singing to "balls to the walls" belting:) One more week and then it's on to whatever is next....

I'd say, I wish I was 30 again, but that wouldn't be true:) I am happy to have celebrated my 50th birthday. That why I privately refer to my health goals as Fit at Fifty! LOL! After all, turning 50 certainly beats the alternative and I think I should consider myself lucky! Thanks for your good wishes:)

Fifty for the first time. Or Fifty for the fifth time?

50?!?!

Dang! If I didn't like you so much, I'd be bittery envious. People had been assuming I was 50 by the time I was 45, and kids in the cast of "Nutcracker" were falling just short of calling me a bald-faced liar when I told them I hadn't hit fifty yet. Last summer, within weeks of my 50th, a fellow guessed my age at 63...with grandkids. Last summer, a kid in Orlando nearly went into a panic attack rather than "sit next to the old man". Obviously, the white beard adds more than just jawline definition. I praise the Bright Lady for Gifting me with a strong ego-structure and a good sense of humor.

Seriously, assuming the pics attached to your LJ entries are reasonably recent, you're looking damn good...WITHOUT the added "...for a guy your age". I'd have honestly pegged you as being a good decade younger.

Doubtless the angel in charge of my DNA is having a good laugh at my expense.

You know darn well how old I am:) I was born March 22, 1954 so don't go around trying to confuse folks who don't know me.

I have a photo to post taken on my birthday this year. However, I am a bit technophobic at times and I can't seem to downsize the file so that I can post it here. Tim (BarakSF) will be here Saturday and I hope he can help me post it:)

The photo I am using for my journal is my headshot; I believe (and have been assured) that I look exactly like my picture; albeit, a heightened reality present in all professional headshots.) After all, it is supposed to get me work:)

There's a reasonably recent pic of me attached to my BearNet profile at www.bear.net/profiles/bruin, and a few attached to an article I wrote for INSIDEBear magazine (www.insidebear.com), "Bear in Ballet".

Were I a professional actor like yourself, I'd be relegated to the Uncle/grandfather/mentor, or perhaps "Hero's avuncular, clumsy sidekick" roles, if I were the good guy; otherwise, I'd be the evil henchman/villian's go-fer roles. The good news, is that with MY looks, I can go all the way from upper-crust Victorian to trailer-park trash with just a change of wardrobe. Since I don't have movie-star good looks, I can blend into the background fairly easily.

The photo is darn good, but then, you've got Peppa's "Handsome" filter going on, don't you? Doesn't seem to work for me... ;o)
