Keeping Track
Apr. 8th, 2005 10:11 pmThis an interesting final weekend in San Francisco. Last night was dancer Tony Falcon's final performance in "Evita". Tony begins rehearsals next week for the Broadway-bound musical "Mambo Kings". We had a put-in rehearsal for Matthew Sipress this afternoon and he made his debut this evening in Tony's spot. Matthew had semi-retired from dancing when he got the call for this gig; he was on the 1998-99 National Tour and also did the show with me in 2000 in Houston in a regional production. He's a wonderful talent.
Today's put-in was also for Barry Brown who replaces Kevin Burroughs. Kevin's last show is tomorrow afternoon and Barry debuts tomorrow night. Just enough time to complete alterations on the costumes. Handsome Barry's a Texan from the Amarillo area and will soon be seen in the movie version of "The Producers". When we are off next week, and for most of the run in Ft Myers, Florida, Barry will be in New York working on the film. Good for him!
Keep your fingers crossed that Angela DiCicco stays healthy this weekend. She'll be playing Eva the final four shows. She was also on tonight. Kathy Voytko who plays Eva Peron injured her neck last night during the performance (pulled muscle, I believe) and she's out for the remainder of our time here. Kate Manning, the other cover for Eva, and who normally plays The Mistress has been told to go on vocal rest for a couple of days. Our capable swing, Eileen Kaden (who is also Bradley Dean/Che's real-life wife) will be covering parts of Angela, Kate's and Brianna Yacavone's shows for the rest of the weekend. (Brianna is on for The Mistress.)
It's just part of life in a touring company, but it does make the shows an adventure.... Go Angie!

Date: 2005-04-10 07:31 am (UTC)Tonight Barry made his debut and he's totally new to "Evita". Matthew and he started rehearsals on Tuesday morning. So after a total of four days, they learned the show, and were thrown on never having worn costumes or mics, nor ever having been on stage with the sets and lights. They did fine, but it's a bit of challenge, as you can imagine to fold them into the show with so many people out ill or injured:)... And... we were nearly sold out in a big theater....

Date: 2005-04-09 02:59 pm (UTC)In some ways, one can learn something from the stories you are sharing here of touring and how to get along in order for a show to work.
Take care and may we read another entry soon. :-)

Date: 2005-04-09 08:00 pm (UTC)I heard from my other half that he saw you at C&B. I did enjoy the show a lot and got quite a kick from going backstage. Your visit to the Bay Area has brightened quite a few lives :-).
By the way, my lack of posting on LJ is well known as well as my laziness in responding to email. Plus I usually feel I don't have anything to share in a public forum (call it shy). I did try to send you email but found that you didn't have an LJ email connection. Maybe I'll run into you before you leave.

Date: 2005-04-10 07:07 am (UTC)It was nice to meet you and to share a bit of time. Tho I only know him through running into him at C&B, Steve seems to a great guy. Nice to know you two share a life together!
No need to be shy with me. You should know that from dinner and post-show:) Keep in touch!
had fun

Date: 2005-04-10 01:05 pm (UTC)Tomorrow at 10am is the cast/crew meet & greet - I'm looking foward to it all over again."Mambo Kings" will surely prove to be a spectacular production, at least visually.

Sorry, I thought the troupe moves on from one destination directly to the next.
It's good there are breaks in between :)
