It’s been a delightful weekend ... Very full ... So less lonely when you have a dear friend in your home and you have shorthand ... No explanations ... No compulsion to have to talk. Just someone else in the house for company. You know their likes and dislikes and they know yours ... It’s what I miss the most ... the ease of being with good friends..

Tim came to visit me in Texas at my request. I have so many projects to get done ... so many computer and tech issues to solve ... His expertise is valuable; it’s saved me much money and time to have someone here to help me who I can trust. This weekend alone, Tim set up my DSL, helped me get the old iMAC set up for Mom and Dad to use, fixed my parents’ front door lock and put up the hardware for the drapes that Randy and I didn’t get up a couple of weeks ago. I called Randy to ask a question about the process and he teased me, asking, “Is that the only way you can get men to visit you? Convince them you need help to hang drapes?” Perhaps, it’s truer than I would like to admit:)

Yesterday was just about perfect ... Tim and I drove to Galveston for the day. We made a couple of stops along the way, Best Buy and The Dump, where I purchased a larger rug for my living room. I put it in place this morning and it’s just right! Traffic was a bugger around Baybrook Mall. At one point, we almost turned back thinking that it would be bumper to bumper all the way to the island. There were a lot of crazy-ass drivers headed south in the sunny 80-degree heat. Two motorcyclists passed my car in the left burm lane reserved for breakdowns, no helmuts, popping wheelies with their cycles ...standing erect ... as their bikes burned rubber from their back tires. Dumb!

Fortunately, right after the mall, traffic thinned to normal and we made it down to the beach. Tim and I took a bunch of photos and then headed to the Historic Strand to take a look at the New Orleans-like architecture and soak in the festive St Patrick’s Day doings. We had a terrific dinner at the Saltwater Grill across from the Galveston Opera House (highly recommended) and then headed back to Brenham. On the way back. more craziness. I saw a light pickup pull off the road, a large guy jumped out of the truck, pulling up overalls (it’s anyone’s guess why they were around his knees). He then started to beat the tar out of a young teenager. Bizarre!

I did have a minor victory over noisy teens. During the afternoon, numerous vehicles pulled up next to my car, windows rolled down, music fully cranked, bass thumping so loudly, my car vibrated. I finally had had enough! So, with Tim cringing in the corner, hands over his face in embarrassment, I rolled down my window and cranked up Sirius Broadway which was playing “You Gotta Have Heart” from Damn Yankees”! I smirked and waved at the teen Latinos in the next car. Of course, they were rolling with laughter, but * dusting off hands dismissively * I showed them!!!! A triumph of taste!!! After Tim came out from behind his hands, we completed the second half of our 300-mile trip. We ended the trip about 10:30pm with ice cream, a perfect day!

Today was the twins’ birthday party and 12 of us gathered at my parents’ house for apple-upside-down cake and French Silk ice cream. Later,Tim and I got the curtains up in the guest bedroom of my house and I did laundry. The best part of the day was that, for my birthday this coming Thursday, Tim gave me a framed picture of three stunning photos he had shot, then matted and framed. I put the collage up in a place of honor. I am really delighted with it! Tonight, we’re just hangin’. It’s early into the office tomorrow where we’ll work on company website updates with my brother ... well, at least Tim will, as only the Handyman can!
