I'm Here Loving You - Lyrics

mrdreamjeansI wrote the following song lyric for a musical that I have yet to complete. Its inspiration comes from those perfect three-day weekends when someone flies or drives in to see someone special, says all the right things, is perfectly charming and articulate; where you have terrific sex, share intimate romantic dinners ... You know - the first-impression weekend where you find yourself doing silly things like making sure you wake up early enough to brush your teeth, comb your hair and climb back in bed before your partner wakes:)
The weekend on someone else's turf ends; you return to your home, unpack the clothes you bought especially for the weekend, put on your favorite ratty pajamas or shorts, grab a box of cookies and maybe a good book or watch that trashy TV program that you supposedly have no knowledge of. There you are, the real you shlumping on the couch exhausted by all of that extra effort. You're home. Time to finally be yourself.
Since I travel so much in my work, I used to experience quite a few of these "perfect" weekends. It took a long time for me to realize that the real me was more than good enough. Here's how I put the subject into song:

The miles between moments

with a kiss, not a plan

Why can't I love in the here and now?
Why won't the doubts go away?
Why must I love when it can't exist beyond today?
It's frightening how my mind works
when the feelings are for real.
I'm near you and I can't breath
for the fear that they are real.
But a journey away, puts my heart into play.
I'm aware that I care, cause you're there
and I'm here loving you.

I'm happy to say that a couple of happy relationships where I found that I could fully be myself and be accepted and loved, faults and all, changed this particular tune. However, I like to remind myself from time to time of hard-learned lessons. Monogamy, Monotony and Monopoly are indeed separate terms. I've done the research.
The results and new rules? Know the real me first; find and feel friendship for the other person first; develop mutual respect first. Kisses and hugs first. Then let the perfect three-day weekends and the games begin.... :)

Date: 2004-05-03 05:34 pm (UTC)Personally, I really like what your song "has to say". I still have a fella that's "far away from me" I'm not sure how I feel about. Though our relationship was begun the way you finished your entry with, and I agree, it's the best way for it to happen. We were friends first via online, followed by a week long vacation (of just being friends) containing some hugs, cuddles, and a growing friendship, then the next visit turned into "more", and we have a great time when ever we're together. I won't lie, it's a struggled relationship when we're apart, and that's where I relate to your song's lyrics. We've gotten to the point that I don't consider it the relationship that it was anymore, and I started to see the other guy in my life.... Lots of personal information from my end, sorry. Basically I really appreciate some aspects of the song besides the well crafted-ness of it's lyrics.
