The right-wing political mechanizations of Karl Rove have begun. I am amazed at the gumption of the attacks on John Edwards.

First attack - John Edwards is only a one-term senator and doesn't have the experience to become president if something happened to John Kerry.

Reality - George Bush spent one full term as governor and most of his second term running for president; he resigned as governor of Texas to take the presidency the courts handed him. Our selected president had no previous experience in government (except tasks his father handed him). He had NO experience in International Affairs and never served in the active military. Cheney didn't serve in the military at all.

Second Attack - Edwards is a rich trial lawyer.

Reality - Yes. So what! He earned his money. He comes from a modest background and built himself from the ground up. His law business focused on medical malpractice cases. Guess what folks? Hospitals, doctors and pharmaceutical companies do make mistakes and should be held accountable.

Bush comes from wealth. His only business success occurred when he was handed part ownership in the Texas Rangers baseball team; he was a figurehead and walked away with millions. Before that, he was a failed oil businessman.

Cheney was biding his time (and reaping his profits), before returning to politics, as CEO of a company now reaping billions of profits from the current war... our new Viet Nam. (Sad to say, I used to work for this company.)

Political spin by Karl Rove at his best. Take what you are guilty of, accuse your opponent of it and make sure the right-wing media outlets ("liberal media" is another successful labeling technique) play it to lowest common denominator who votes.

Just wait till Rick Perry runs for reelection as governor of Texas next year and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison runs against him in the Republican primary. Rove, behind Perry, will make you think the moderate senator is evil incarnate.

Meanwhile - A heartening sight this morning on local television - Ken Lay, CEO of Enron, in handcuffs being taken to court to face a federal indictment.

Protester/Supporter of Lay interviewed on Houston ABC affiliate Channel 13 - a Bubba carrying a big sign, dressed in a stained tee-shirt and shorts, "Man, he was the best golfer a caddy ever had, man. He's totally innocent."

Ah - Texas! LOL!
