This is one of those entries where the content is random. My weekend was full of activities, but due to the heat and humidity of Southeast Texas, I felt like I accomplished most of my agenda in a wet sauna.

First - though they're not on live journal, I want to wish my friends Henry and Geoff in Arlington, VA a HAPPY 28th ANNIVERSARY! The guys have been an important part of my life since they rescued me in a bar in 1992. I celebrate their longevity as a couple and as wonderful friends!

On television last night in Houston - a tribute to President Bush Sr. in honor of his 80th birthday and a fundraiser for three charities. It started with Wynona Judd. Why, oh why, Wynona are you so messed up!? She's been very public (Oprah twice) with her battle with her weight, but she looks heavier than ever and had trouble walking...had to be assisted off the stage. Very sad! I like her music and am on her side, but she's got to get it together.

Weekend Wedding - I mentioned to Robert (lowfatmuffin) that Saturday was all about my sister-in-law Lisa's mother's third wedding. As I said before - I sang four songs, which did go well. The only negative to the wedding was Lisa's brother Dan. He gave a prayer at the end of the ceremony which was to be brief. Instead he rambled on for 15 minutes with nothing of substance to say, in a barely discernible drone... about Adam and Eve... ribs... how his mother was no longer an independent woman (and he offered this as a good thing)...

He kept saying, "Dear Lord, Give us Mercy"...by the seventh time, I was fervently praying for a merciful ending to the prayer! I mean the bride and groom were both 74 years old and swaying with fatigue by that time; several of the folks attending were older. I found myself hoping that they would make it to the end of the prayer:)

Dear Lord, if you are going to allow someone to give a public prayer, please give them an idea of what to say or smite them for inferior praying. In this case, Dan's rambling was all about sounding important and religious and dripped with ineptitude. Take a cue from the 74-year old bride and groom and be sincere. Yawn....

Upcoming week - I'm packing for a two-part trip today. I'm looking forward to it as I seldom travel...hehe. I'm driving to Dallas to see friends from Seattle who are performing at the Fair Park in "Yankee Doodle Dandy" through Sunday. I'm seeing the show on Wednesday night and Donald (woofytexan) has graciously agreed to accompany me.

Thursday I'm flying to Boston and will sing in my dear friend Linda's wedding on Saturday morning in South Weymouth, MA. We toured (and roomed together) in national tours of "Evita" and "Phantom of the Opera". She's been in a general funk for about five years and, now that she's found someone who cares for her and is no longer alone, the transformation is astounding.

I really can't afford the trip, but I'm finding ways to make it happen. I think it's important to celebrate new-found happiness. Besides, the bride is 57 and the groom is 66. If they can find love (as in this past Saturday's nuptuals), then there's hope for me (and I'm much younger:). SO - let's all celebrate hope today!

Finally - I ranted about "dodgeball" in my last post and several folks wrote thoughtful commentary in response. Thank You! I guess I don't know what I'm talking about... the Ben Stiller movie that celebrates a sport that's only purpose is to hurt someone else, debuted at number one in the box office, beating the new Speilberg/Tom Hanks film, "The Terminal". No accounting for taste! (looking in basement...now where is my mushball...I know I have it somewhere.......ah, there's my first target................)
