It always amazes me how quickly I develop a certain routine in the course of a week. I leave the apartment about 9am every day, and if I hit the express train correctly, I'm down to Penn Station about 15 minutes later. I walk past Macy's at 34th and Seventh, stop in at a deli on 36th Street for a cheap breakfast, tease the Brooooooklyn waitress and still get to rehearsals on 8th Avenue about 15 minutes later. Last week, I took wrong trains, headed wrong directions once I came out into the day from the underground. Now - I don't even think about it... I walk by instinct, sort of mentally filing my nails, as I head efficiently to my destination:)

We rehearse from 10am to 2:00pm with only five or ten minute breaks...just long enough to pee, check phone messages or, for four of the guys, to hurry downstairs from the 16th Floor and outside for a quick cigarette. During lunch, I've been heading to another deli where a Russian waitress sulks her way through the service, eat the same meat loaf special and listen to and return messages on my cell.

After rehearsals end at 6pm, I usually walk the 38 blocks back to the apartment, preferring to stay off the subways during rush hour. Several times I've checked the TKTS booth at 46th and Broadway to see which shows are "on the board" for half off. So far, I've just taken in "The Producers", but that will change tonight when Tim (gotmoof) arrives in the Big Apple for his birthday. We have plans to see "Wicked" on Thursday night and on Friday, Tim's actual birthday, we will see "Hairspray".

The Live Journal network is mobilizing. Vern-n-NYC is meeting Tim at the airport and helping him train it into the city from JFK; another friend of Tim's... Steve... is meeting Tim tomorrow for a Wednesday matinee of "Fiddler", "42nd Street" or "Wonderful Town". I'll be in rehearsals, so it's nice to know that Tim will have local company while I am working. Later in the week, I hope to introduce Tim to Chip and John; we hope to meet Vinny (sohipithurts) over the weekend and we plan dinner with Jeff (abearius) on Monday evening. I think it will be a birthday week to remember. I think I'll have to go to work to rest:)

Tomorrow Hal Prince comes in the afternoon to review the work again and this time he'll be followed by a camera crew filming portions of our rehearsals with him. I joked about everyone in the cast wearing Kerry-Edwards tee-shirts, but the management is actually worried about their image, so my comment only elicited worried chuckles. I think they are more concerned that the "Fuck Bush" shirt, prevalent around the city, might appear in their footage on one of their actors. I'm feeling a bit subversive, but I do value my job, so I suppose I'll behave:)

Tomorrow afternoon, we will piece the entire first act of "Evita" together. The parts that were under-rehearsed last week have been the focal point of the past two days. We have even staged three numbers from the second act since yesterday morning.... so three new "routines" learned. The pace is picking up; in fact, we literally were given 15 minutes to learn the music to one number and then staged it immediately after. I am very grateful that I am remembering, more than learning, the staging:)

Tim gets in late tonight and I am looking forward to the company. Just having him here, I'm sure we'll fall into old routines, just like for the months he traveled with me from 1997-99. Mom has been released from the hospital and is home. She's in very good spirits and has received excellent care in the past few days...so Mom being home with Dad is back to routine.

For me there is always comfort in routine.... and in learning routines:)

I love your posts too. So much fun to read and learn what you are doing. But then again, you do write in a wonderful entertaining way to begin with.

I'm glad your Mom home and is doing well. Yay!

Hope you have fun with Tim this week in celebration of his birthday. :-)

Living vicariously through you I found myself coughing out loud after reading that you exited the underground, my habit of warding off evil urban smog. Also, I'm following the rehearsals listening to the soundtrack as you describe it.

Good to hear your mom is out of the woods, parents become like children when it has to do with their health, mine are obstinate on top of that!

Say HI! to my fellow Libran -Tim, haven't met him yet, but I hear great things about him, and being a LIBRA how could he go wrong!...

happy rest-of-the week :)

Nice to meet you too! And thanks again for making sure our friend gotmoof arrived safely at the apartment. I'm sure you got very little sleep last because of the lateness of his arrival and the trains, but I really appreciate you taking such care with our Wisconsin arrival. See you again on Sunday!
