Ahhhhh..The Quiet
Oct. 9th, 2004 08:18 amSaturday morning in New York and it’s blissfully quiet. All week I’ve struggled to get any rest, as by 7:00am the level of noise outside the apartment has reached full volume. The city, bold and brassy, has come to life! Trash cans are being banged around, the sidewalks are being hosed down by supers, drivers are hitting their horns and pedestrians are yelling back. It’s New York CIty in all of its vibrancy, but I’m one tired pup:)
I woke up this morning at the same time, but it was because the sounds had changed. It’s a weekend and the hustle and bustle has calmed down. I’m really looking forward to Sunday:) Today is the end of my “Evita” work week and we are going to review most of Act One. There are several details in each of the numbers and scenes that certainly need teaching, fine-tuning and polishing, but for the most part, the music has been learned (you’re always given the parts one day and expected to know the music and lyrics when you come in the next day), and blocking and choreography have been introduced.
We’ll run the act today to get a sense of what we have to this point and to determine what needs to be addressed before moving forward. The act will be in very rough shape, but to get through most of it in six days, is an accomplishment. I hit the ground running today at 10am and come up for air at lunch (2-3pm). We go right to 6pm with only a five or ten minute break every hour to hour and twenty. Sunday is our day off. I may even go out a bit tonight, as I can sleep all day tomorrow if I choose to do so:)
My mother will be on my mind all day today. On the lunch hour, I’ll connect with my sister and brother and get an update. For some reason, she’s been kept in ICU and we haven’t been able to determine exactly why, but in a second conversation with my family after I posted to live journal last night, my sister reiterated that Mom should be fine. I guess there is no need to go in crisis mode before a real crisis. I’ll try to focus on work and deal with any left curves if they come my way. I'll just keep positive thoughts.
Thanks to my friends who commented on last night's post. I am having a wonderful time here in the Big Apple; but every once in awhile, you just have one of those days, no matter where you are or what you are doing. I really appreciate the words of affection and support!

I'm seeing mine today as I go up near Pt Townsend to see the Chum Salmon come up river to spawn and my sister and hubby's property. Should be fun, although possibly wet. The NW y' know. :-)
