Remingtons... Then and Now
Oct. 3rd, 2004 09:31 amOne of the reasons I stopped in DC on the way to New York was to go dancing at Remingtons, the country-western bar. It's the club I was visiting when I met my hosts Henry and Geoff, 12 years ago.
I was touring back then too... and yes, it was "Evita":) We were playing Wolftrap and staying in Tysons Corner, Virginia. A group of four of us decided to go out; Will and Dominic rode in with us, but quickly headed off to other clubs. John and I stayed at Remingtons to dance. I was very clear with John that, no matter what time he wanted to leave, I was returning to the hotel in the same car. Everything seemed fine. Dancing was fun; the men were hot; a great time, except he left me!
It didn't seem a problem at first...until the options started to collapse. The trains stopped at 1am, a cab ride was over $40 and I didn't have enough cash; ATMs were not in common use, nor were cell phones. Plus, I really didn't have a clear picture of my location in DC.
I had danced with Henry a couple of times early in the evening. As I realized what had happened, I got angry and then a bit of panic creeped in. Henry came up to me and seeing my obvious distress, asked me how he could help. The two rescued me, went out of their way to get me back to my hotel. They've been close friends, and my hosts in the Washington, DC area, ever since.
Last night was a different story. No abandonments, just fun with friends. Henry, Geoff and I, along with their friends Damon and John got to Remingtons about 10:20pm. To my complete pleasure, CrunchMD (John ) and I immediately recognized each other from our iconic (grin) pictures. He introduced me to another LJ member, Martin (MartinSoba). Soon after, we were joined by Bearchitect, Fernando. What nice, handsome, articulate men!
I spent most of the time on the dance floor trading partners and visiting while spinning around the floor, but it was that combination of the heroes from 12 years ago and the LJ friends who have come into my life recently, that made it a very special evening. Thanks, Guys!
At noon, I head to Union Station and complete the trip to NYC. Tomorrow.... rehearsals and costume fittings...the adventure picks up speed:)
