A Warning

About two weeks ago, I got an email with a friend's name in the subject line from a site called reunion.com. I decided to check it out, as the name was legit. After reviewing it, I started to fill out a form, realized I was being taken on a ride I didn't want to be and bailed out of the registration.

In the past 14 days, several of my friends have received similar emails from reunion.com using my name in the subject. I'm not certain how to stop the emails using my name; but, please, if you do get such an email wanting you to join the site, delete it or mark it as spam! I would never do such a thing knowingly. I'm sorry if this has inconvenienced anyone.

I got one this morning.

gmail shuttled it to the spam bin though. When I saw it was from you, I opened it and examined the links. All of them actually pointed to reunion.com, but I still did not bite. I'll do some searching before I report them up the chain.

Huggage.

Thanks! If you could instruct me how to get rid of them, I would appreciate it.

Big HUGS!

I did more research and they are a pretty tough cookie. There are lawsuits pending against them, but so far nothing has happened even though they are located in Santa Monica!

If you have gmail, or an equivalent, just mark one of them as spam, and the filter should take care of any subsequent one. With gmail, it already knows the reunion.com is a spammer. Unfortunately, it must have already grabbed your addressbook, so that is gone.

It's my first experience with them. I don't move around much on the internet, though I have agreed to Facebook and Plaxco.

I am on Facebook too. Feel free to add me as a friend as I am going to look for you there as well.

I spend little time there. Really don't know what I'm doing on Facebook, but I'd be happy to "friend" you.

HUGS!

You haven't inconvenienced me but I usually "File 13" that stuff anyway.

HUGS!

Well, I'm not experienced with this kind of thing, so I thought I'd let people know it wasn't me. Thanks for letting me know.

Its interesting that they managed to spam me on Yahoo using your name, under an address that I don't even think you know exists!!

Whenever a site seems to use a Microsoft platform, I get email at a yahoo address I don't know how to access. I accidently found it today and yahoo scolded me for not registering with them. *sigh* Screw em!

Not that I've received such e-mails, but why would I respond to a "reunion" invitation from "you" when we never attended the same schools?

Not to worry...I wouldn't respond to a high school reunion e-mail from a legitimate classmate, because I have nothing to say to people who had nothing to say to me 38 years ago. If it was a college reunion, I wouldn't recognize any of the names.

No worries.

Well, I suppose there are kinds of reunions that aren't school based, perhaps an organization like a chorus, but you and I both know we don't have any of that in common. I hope they get weary and quit using my name!

Aw, the evil spam website! But think on the positive side, it does make some of your long-lost friends to contact you due to the spam e-mail they got!

That's always a good thing. Love to hear from my friends. I just don't want them to be inconvienced.

HUGS!

I've had my share of continuing problems with them. I'll try the labeling them as spam and see if it goes away. I hope it wasn't my name that tempted you to get involved with them. I'm not even sure how they got my name in the first place.

To tell the truth, I don't remember the name they used, but it suckered me in long enough to grab my address book. At least you and I both have good suggestions from our LJ friends as to earmark them as spam. They emailed my sister too, using my name. Have a good time in Austin this weekend.

HUGS!

Those MoFo's! I have actually received three emails now in your name but knew they were bullshit spam and deleted them without bothering you about them. I suppose I should have mentioned it to you from the first, so that you could post this warning sooner. Bruce hangs his head in shame.

Not your problem, my friend. I've only gradually heard that they were using my name. I never should have opened the email, but I'd never encountered this before. It's insidious because they use names gleaned from your address book.

HUGS!

Interesting post...seems that reunion.com has hit Australia as well. Like most others who have commented, it went straight into spam.
