It doesn't take much to turn your day around when you know you are loved. After a mind-numbingly difficult and long day, I returned home about 8pm. In my mail box was a single card. I opened it, not quite certain what it could be since there was no special occasion attached to it that I could think of. I opened it. Inside it said, "We're proud of you and we love you. Mom and Dad".

I called Mom to thank her. I told her that the card had made my day. I asked her how she picked this particular greeting card. She replied, "Well, the message was about hugs ... and it had a bear on the cover." I may be on the slightly higher end of middle age, but it's still nice to get this kind of note at the end of a bad day from your folks. I guess my Mom has "bear pride":)

Hope all of my friends in LJ Land have someone who can turn their day around for the better!

Very unexpected! It really did help. It touched me. Mom was so funny when I asked her why she picked the card. The "bear" remark made me laugh out loud.

HUGS!

You know you really are a national treasure - and I'm not even going to begin listing the reasons why. I'll just say you are a truly bright spot on my friends list - and that's just the start . .

Moments like that can erase a mountain of bad ones. You should send your Mother a rose with a special song that you will sing for her on Mother's day. :)

Hmmm ... That's right! Mothers Day is coming up, so it my brother's 26th wedding anniversary and [livejournal.com profile] bearbrat's birthday. I better get myself to a card store!

I didn't have bad news yesterday, just an intensely busy work day thatr ran from 7am till 8pm. I dealt with everything, but the card was so unexpected and heartfelt. YAY!

HUGS, my friend!

Mother's have a way of pulling the hearstrings and/or making you laugh that Dads just can't touch.

Remind me to tell you of the boquet of carnations my mom sent me for my 40th birthday. Priceless!

On the day of my 40th birthday, I was called into work for a staff meeting (I was working second shift at the time, so I had to go to make the 10am meeting). When I returned, I found a vase with a dozen carnations between the storm door and the main door to the house. The carnations were white, but had been spray painted black and dusted with glitter in honor of my entrance into middle age. Big talk from a woman who had turned 65 two days earlier! I thought it was hysterical; my partner simply doesn't understand this kind of humor.

I like a wicked sense of humor in a mom:) So, I suppose buying Nap Ex-Lax for his 40th birthday wouldn't have gone over? LOL!

Not at all. You can hear his molars grind when his own mother mentions the grey in his hair, or any perceived weight gain. Such personal comments do not go over at all.

Thanks! I'm really irritated that you didn't get the package with photos in it. I bet some mail sorting machine tore it up, though it was clearly stamped to handle with care. *sigh* Well, I tried to so something nice for you.

You! and this post! I think you should send her back a real Bear Pride card in June to say the same! I think I'm going to do that with my mother! I think I'm going to do that with everybody I know who sends me Xmas cards!

Yup, and yer' one of 'em !

What a lovely thing for your Mom to do ... moms are a good breed, often with the uncanny ability to sense just when their offspring need a warm touch of encouragement.

Well, Mom and the US Mail got it right. Tuesday was a tough (not really bad, just tough) day. It turned it around. If possible, yesterday was even busier with referrals, readmissions, sales calls and the prerequisite drive to Austin .. which is happening again this morning. I've got to follow up with [livejournal.com profile] realaustinman this morning. My schedule is crazy, but I'd really like to meet him while I'm over there.

Hope you're doing well! HUGS!

She is! Due to health circumstances for them, I've centered my life around them for the past two years. Gestures like this make other folks understand that the choice was a good one. Thanks!

Hi Neil

What I liked best about this post is your sense of gratitude. The unconditional love that exists between family members and in particular between parents and children is so fragile at times many accept that love not realizing it’s importance until it’s not there anymore. I have many friends who love and care about me. I’m happy and content. Still you can say extended family to your heart’s content but it’s not the same thing.

Thank you for your post.

Thanks, Bob! Over the past couple of years in particular, there have been times when I doubted .. but I eventually realized the negative things that happened between my folks and me .. to me ... were very much a part of my Dad's illnesses and healing. I should never have doubted how much they love me. But, that's part of maturity ... "getting it".

Hope your vacation is everything you hoped it would be!

HUGS!
