It's a fact. I watch a lot of HGTV and I like decorating spaces. I've helped several friends customize their homes and I've currently been given carte blanche to create a Heritage Suite at work. (I've selected the design, colors and decor for the room.) There's a program on HGTV, hosted by Chayse Dakota, called "Get It Together" where she helps couples compromise on a decorating style. On the HGTV website, there is a quiz you can take that suggests your design style from answering a few random questions. Here are my results with no manipulation:

You’re eccentric with a touch of sweet

For you, it’s all about the mix. Any style is welcome in your world as long as it complements something else. You’re drawn to funky interiors and eye-catching color combinations (think red and blue, orange and turquoise, purple and gold). You like contrasting patterns and unconventional architecture. You enjoy furnishings that remind you of your travels mixed with modern pieces and offbeat antiques.

According to your results, these styles suit you best:

* Eclectic
* Southwestern
* Mediterranean

Before taking this test this morning, I had taken photos of a redecoration of my guest bedroom. Odd how my choices fit the analysis perfectly.

The guest bedroom is in orange and turquoise, though
the colors in reality are more harmonious than the photo suggests

In terms of mixing antiques, western and odd choices from my travels, my living room is a good example:

Western leather couch, dad's childhood desk, a mission table he made for me,
a basket from Africa used as a coffee table ....

The questions on the quiz were very random. In one you chose your favorite dog from a group of four; in another, your favorite cookie ... Yet, the results were right on target. Go figure!

One final photo ... I framed and hung this 16x20 photo yesterday. It's an old building in Round Top, Texas and I photographed it a year ago today. I'm surprised at the number of people who have seen it, who love it. I call it simply and obviously, "Turquoise Door".

Candace Olsen rocks!!! She needs to be my friend ... she just doesn't know it yet! :) Glad you like the turquoise door! (I bet it would even look good with pink pillows:)

HUGS!

[at the moment I'm underwater, drafting a show...but couldn't resist a peek at LJ].
How wonderful to see you exercising one of your several creative talents! As you said to me a while back, 'My orange is your red'. Of coures the orange and turquoise work beautifully together...it's a complementary color scheme (blue & orange), but tweaked, showing off a sort of Southwestern feel and allowing for a rich layering of browns to mediate between the warm orange and the cool turquoise. Bravo!
I'm eager to see your next efforts.
Haven't taken the test yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it said something like "Give it up ... the best we can say is 'over the top' " - LOL
Huggz!

Bet your style would be "eccentric, but sweet" too! I love your condo, so full of vibrant red accents, cozy numbers of books and memorabilia. It's a home! HUGS!

ps .. When you have time, please take a look at yesterday's post. Humorous with a serious undertone ...

That's a wonderful photograph and I particularly love it cause I was just there last week! There is something so compelling about photographs of doors and windows but you really captured a great one and captured it perfectly.

You do know about http://community.livejournal.com/doorwindowwall/ right?

Howdy! Thanks so much!

My friend, if you have time, I'd like your thoughts/comments to my previous post ... "Pink Tie, Prophets and Kisses", particularly the ending topic.

Have you noticed how bad Christopher Lowell is looking these days? Like a bad med reaction or something... He's all puffy and distorted looking. I saw a picture of him at Jo-ann's and was really shocked and saddened. Yes, he's queeny as hell, but I always thought he was kind of cute in an otterish sort of way. Now he looks like an egg.

Probably a life of excess... I hope he doesn't have a serious medical condition. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. His show always drove me nuts, because of his mannerisms, yet I watched it often. Oh well ... :)

Noooo. I don't think it's excess... or only excess...

Donald and I love Chayse Dakota and Candace Olsen! We'll often watch either of their shows and compare notes with our style. Speaking of ... I'm going to have to take that style quiz just out of curiosity. I wanna say it's somethig like Traditional Mediterranean.

Not too dissimilar to my taste:) In addition to the two ladies mentioned, my other fave is Joan Steffen of "Decorating Cents".

We'll have to set up an LJ decorating conference:)

which I'm not sure is totally Neil Badders who I know can let his hair down some more. Somehow the green touches remind me of your ex-boss' office. Is that wierd or scary?

I've postponed going back to Houston til later. Too much to do, too little time. Tonight is 1st time-off opportunity.

Called you but missed you. Should I resend your present or hang on to it til we see each other? It was my fault it came back.

I'll make it a priority to speak with you this week. Last week was a nightmare of a schedule. We'll decide what to do about the package when we chat.

It's bizarre, but there is no true green in either room. The pillows photographed oddly. They really are a turquoise, which I think of as a shade of blue.

Sorry to hear you're not coming this way, but I know your schedule is packed.

Big HUGS!
