This legislator sounds crazy, but I see the point he is trying to make. From AOL ....

Fed up with the threats, tired of natural disasters, the state's longest-serving state senator is using his legal muscle against who he says is the culprit — God. State Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha sued the Almighty in Douglas County District Court last week.

Chambers, who skips morning prayers during the legislative session and often criticizes Christians, said he filed the lawsuit to show that anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody.

Chambers says in his lawsuit that God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents, inspired fear and caused "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."

Chambers also says God has caused "fearsome floods ... horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes."
He's seeking a permanent injunction against God.

Oh I just love this.

How will it affect his re-election prospects?

I saw a group of Kenyan Christians the other day had asked the High Court to squash the verdict against Christ as it was not done following due process.

religion - ahhh, such a joy.

Evidently, he's been acting like this for years ... arguing oddities for the sake of argument. Most Nebraskans believe he's lost his marbles, but his district has repeatedly reelected him.

The due process story is priceless too ...

Either story generates much debate:)

HUGS!

The dear state Senator is an embarassment to the entire state. When I lived there, people were so sick of him...he is the reason why they enacted term limits in the Unicameral. Once again he's made Nebraska the laughing stock of the nation.

Ah ... but I'm sure that he will only briefly deflect attention from the crazies of Texas politics:) At least his actions led to structural changes.

Thanks again for everything, hon! Big HUGS!

The lawsuit will fail as the senator has forgotten that indeed, you can't just sue anyone anywhere in the US, but only in their place of residence or business.

The only place you could legally sue God therefore is heaven.

In theory though, couldn't you sue someone in your jurisdiction if your dealings with them are at your residence or places of business? ... Or something like that? :)

It is difficult to sue a fantasy.

I never expected to hear Ernie Chambers' name again. Alas. I lived in Omaha for 16 years and near there for another seven. He is easy to pick out on the floor of the Unicameral. Besides being black, he dresses routinely in tight-fitting T-shirts. He has always been odd. It sounds as though he may have really slipped up this time.

He does seem to have a knack for self-promotion:)I didn't post the entire article. He filed the lawsuit to draw attention to a specific lawsuit making its way through the Nebraska courts. He wanted to demonstrate that evidently there is no lawsuit too silly or pointless when it comes to wasting the courts' time.
