mrdreamjeans: (Seeing Double)

At 7:30am, the fireworks began. A Saturday morning, at 7:30am. Am I missing some cultural reference or am I justified in being a tad annoyed? It's been 30 minutes of cock-a-doodle-doo's, barking dogs and popping explosive sounds somewhere in the neighborhood. What a way to be awakened!

Wait! Perhaps, the fireworks are in celebration of a rarely seen phenomenon ... I mowed a lawn yesterday for the first time since I was 12 years old! Nah ... At most that deserves applause:)

Maybe it's because the City of Houston joined the 21st century and enacted a smoking ban in bars and restaurants which began at midnight ... I don't think so ...

Are the fireworks in honor of the kick-off for the football season? I'm headed to College Station this afternoon to attend the Texas A&M-Montana State football game with my sister, brother and niece. Unlikely.

Could it be for my vocal coaching in Houston tomorrow at 4pm? That's something to cheer about, but still ...

Has anyone seen my "Man of La Mancha" script and score from 2004? After searching for hours yesterday, finding it would be something to celebrate!!

The fireworks have stopped after 45 minutes, though the neighborhood rooster continues to crow. I'm going back to bed! Is there is a legit reason as to why there are fireworks on September 1 at the butt crack of dawn? I'd like to know .. in about two hours ...

(Edit: As I paid the monthly fee for my storage unit about 11am, I casually mentioned to the ladies who work there about the fireworks, the firecracker sounds, early this morning. They replied, "Hon, it's the beginning of dove season. Those were rifle shots you were hearing." At 7:30am? Geez ... Remember, I live right downtown!)

I appreciate it, but I need the music for use tomorrow. I'm headed to my folks to scour their house to see if I can find it; then it's off to the storage unit:)

Have a great weekend!

HUGS!

Congrulations on mowing the lawn! Wow!

Yeah ... I borrowed my nephew's lawn mower and my brother wanted to take pictures:)

The back story is that when I reached 12, my brother was 6 and I manipulated my folks into thinking it was time that Jeff learned and I never looked back:). As an adult, I've owned two homes. The first had acreage and I was touring 50 weeks a year. I moved my folks into my home to take care of it; my Dad loves to mow on his honkin' big riding mower. Since I moved to my current house, my nephew's had a lawn mowing business; I was happy to be one of his clients. He's back at school now - hence, my mowing:)

Still - It's a shocking sight! LOL!

So how long does it take? My father had a big yard, and it took 5 hours to mow. I hated that. His driveway took about 5 hours to shovel the snow. I think that's one reason why I always wanted to live in a big city.

In Kansas City, Roy's yard was a nice size for mowing. It took about 45 minutes each for the front & back. It was actually very therapeutic.

And I can't believe you were able to get your parents to make your 6 y/o brother mow the lawn. You must have been very convincing!

I could be quite dramatic:) I think I made a case that I was busy with jr high band.

As to the yard ... It took me about 50 minutes total. It's a nice sized yard, but quite doable in a fairly short time. I just have to make sure that I mow in the early morning or near dusk, otherwise the temps and humidity are unbearable.

HUGS!

Ummm ... I would like to think that too, but I just found out the reality (which I'm going to put in an edit to this post). It was the beginning of dove season and the sounds were the cracking of rifle shots. Yuck!

... and remember ... I live right down town!

dove season?? is there anything they don't hunt??

In all fairness, I hunt men, but there doesn't seem to be licensing for that:) My brother and sister-in-law are driving to New Mexico on Tuesday for the start of bow season. Lisa got a wild pig with her bow a couple of years ago. So, the short answer is no:)

So call the cops if they're shooting off fireworks... if its not illegal, its certainly a noise nuisance.

holy crap, you actually mowed? the sky is falling!

You may have missed my edit to this post. The fireworks were actually rifle shots. Today was the beginning of dove season and the cracking sound I heard were hunters ... beginning at 7:30am! As you well know, I am NOT out in the country.

Yes, I mowed and did a good job ... but .. um ... I don't think you have anything to say. It's not exactly your favorite thing to do either:) LOL!

Got your message when I got home a few minutes ago around 11pm. I attended an A&M football game with Colleen, Jeff & Cait. They all say howdy!

HUGS!

LOL - does this go under the heading "Only in Texas" ? Actually I've got a daily gaggle of mourning doves hogging my bird feeder ... wouldn't mind sending them on an adventurous vacation to the Houston area.

BTW, that's an intriguing avatar photo... where/when was it taken? Those twins are quite famous, at least in photography circles. I love their drag - though the pretty one is the character in the top middle =0)

Haha! The photo of me with the Brown Twins was taken in 2005. They live in the Grosvenor Suites on Nob Hill. It's the property where many of the touring actors stay when they are playing San Francisco. They are a hoot! One day I got on the elevator with them dressed in matching cowgirl outfits in red & white, little white cowboy hats perched on their wigs. It certainly made my day. They were very flirtatious with me during the whole time I stayed in the hotel:) They are SF legends!

How fun - thanks for the refresher ! I hadn't known their name ( I suppose they have individual first names ... but does it really matter ? - LOL) If I were teaching in the SF area, I'd assign the design class a project to come up with outfits for the twins, wigs and all.

And they would love that! They are very clear about being SF landmarks, have management and everything. I was told I could use the photo of us for non-commercial purposes only:)
