First let me say a great big Happy Birthday to that photographer extraordinaire, [livejournal.com profile] peppabear!! Hope you had a terrific day, Tom!

A brief follow up to an earlier post ...

I ate tonight in the same restaurant where on Sunday, a "Damien-in-training" smarted off to a server who was being nice to him, "Don't call me, Sweetie! Butthead!". She was my server again this evening, greeted me with a huge smile and brought the manager over to the table, "This is the guy I told you about ... the one who made me feel so much better after that little boy was so rude. He turned my day right back around."

The manager, Josh, shook my hand and thanked me for recognizing that the little boy had hurt his server's feelings and for responding with kindness. Course - Josh, Rosalyn and I are tight now ... first name basis ... close, ya know:)

Seriously, I'm just glad that I was there to say something ...

On the other hand, I doubt the manager and cashier at the Chinese restaurant will be happy to see me when I return. Is there a test to see if someone has spit in your food? Does MSG taste like spit? LOL!

Why in the world would you ever go to that Chinese place again? The food can't be that good!

Two reasons ... I want to see if I did any good with my rant and followup with the owner. Secondly, it is the only Chinese food within 20 miles or more ... I can cut back, but I can't go without (and yes, I am that bad a cook that making it is out of the question:)

Btw, I miss our interactions on here ... I picked up the phone recently and called Fernando. We've played phone tag, but haven't connected. I sure do wish I could have an evening out with you, the pagercub, Chip, John, Christopher, Vern and others ... *sigh* ... sometime soon!

HUGS!

Thanks for posting this follow-up. I'm glad you are the kind of guy who just won't let things like that pass unmentioned, or without acting upon them.

I'm really pleased to know you did turn that server's day around, and that she, in turn, wanted to let you know you'd made a difference in her day.

That's the kind of thing you just can't give away. I keeps coming back to you, and also gets passed on again and again.

You know, I don't think I ever replied to your phone message to me. I'm really sorry. Things have been crazy. Please forgive. I'd love to be strolling the streets of Toronto again with you in my time off from a show. Sounds like ancient history, doesn't it?

I really do try to be extra nice to those people who serve others. Only rarely do I have to respond the way I did in the situation at the Chinese restaurant. I am working at not getting too cynical ... It just seems that so many people, especially in government, seem to be able to slide by ... gliding along in their own incompetent little worlds ...

Send out a mighty amount of energy that an excellent job comes my way soon ... so much is balancing on that .... HUGS!

Yes, but I like cashew chicken and I don't have the patience to stay in the kitchen figuring it out. Anyone have a fool proof, so- easy- you-can't- screw- it- up- way- to make this dish? LOL!

I haven't tried cashew chicken... Cashews are fairly expensive, tho, so it's probably cheapest to just keep going to the place with the lousy service.

I can hear you now ...

"Spike, honey, have you met my Daddy Neil? He screens all applicants before they are allowed in my boudoir."

Me (in stern voice) - "Okay, Bud. Take a number and go to the back of the line. You .. yeah you with the great ass, up here now .. Let me see that application, proof of net worth, your health records and the resume with your experience."

So, what makes you think you'd be a good enough for Duff?! Better not lie to me, Boy! "

*grin*

You know, you bring up an interesting point. Being a waiter myself, I sometimes wonder what can some people be thinking when they treat the people who will be bring them their food the way they do. Not that I would ever spit in any ones plate!

Well ... When I'm around you, I'm usually thinking how handsome, smart and professional your are:) I doubt you'd leave tables waiting while you took a 45 minute break where your customers could see you chain-smoking and chatting on your cell:) I try to treat all people with respect ... but every once in awhile something like this chaps my butt!

HUGS!

I'm guessing that the parents of that little asshole didn't do or say anything to apologize to her, either.

I believe they were grandparents, though it could have been really old parents ... They tried to stop him .. shush him .. to no avail. He thought he was being terribly clever and funny.

More of us need to speak up, even if it isn't our business, when we someone being mistreated or being treated unfairly and or unkindly.

At least they tried. That should count for something, I guess.

Having worked in retail for too many years, I'm especially sensitive to people in the service industry being mistreated by the public. It's such an unfair situation, because the customer can say/do whatever they want and the worker can't do anything about it. I suspect that's why people are so nasty to them in the first place, though.

Yep ... "The customer is always right" is often carte blanche for consumers to mistreat folks working in the retail/service industries. But at least I can do what I did ... not add to that discourtesy ... and to speak up in their behalf when they are powerless.
