mrdreamjeans: (Bright Idea)

Last night, I attended a late showing of the newest Harry Potter sequel with my nephew Brennan, two of his friends and their father. I enjoyed the film immensely for the following reasons:

*It moved along quickly.
*I didn't miss any of the parts left out from the book, because quite honestly, I can't remember much about the book. (I read it once three years ago:)
* It is as I always suspected, those who wear pink can be evil:)
*Daniel Radcliffe is turning into quite a good little actor.
*Emma Watson, as Hermione, didn't have enough to do to irritate me with her minimal acting skills.
*The actor playing Delores Umbridge was perfect. (I love the closeness of the surname to "umbrage")
*The character (and the actor playing) Luna Lovegood rocked!
*I love all of the wonderful character actors ... and their faces ... Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters, the actor who played Willow in "Willow" as Professor Flitwick. (I can't recall his actual name.)
*I was thoroughly entertained! I liked it much more than the past two Harry Potter flicks.

Sometimes when I'm completely absorbed in a movie, I can forget where I am and be a bit too interactive. Toward the end of "The Order of the Phoenix", the head minister, Fudge declares, "He is back!" (referring to Valdemort). Without missing a beat ... and in a moment of complete silence in the theatre ... I replied in a deadpan, sarcastic tone, "Dumbass." To my surprise, everyone in the theatre laughed. I turned to my nephew and said, "I made that comment outside of my head, didn't I?" He continued to laugh his ass off. I've got to remember to use my indoor voice when in the presence of tender ears:)

Thanks, Jim! He's a pretty terrific nephew! Harry Potter's been our thing since the series started. I purchased the first book as a congratulations for a reading award he won, the second book, a friend of mine purchased for him in England before they started simultaneous publishing dates, etc ... I pre-ordered the final book four months ago and recently changed from free shipping to paid, so we get it this Saturday.

HUGS!

Hahaha!
Classic.
I think I made the same comment, but only [livejournal.com profile] goofycubb heard me :-)

I'm sure you did! We had a lot of small ones in the audience even though we were at a 930pm showing. Luckily, I didn't say out loud the first thought which entered my head which was, "No shit!" LOL! There was something the way that moment was edited or handled by the actor which made the discovery by Fudge ridiculous.

Next up for me ... that Rat movie:)

I agree with you there. It was almost like we know that. LOL
Yeah the Rat movie is next on my long list as well :-)

I had to say that as I can't for the life of me spell the title correctly without a reference in front of me and I'm too lazy to look it up:)

.... and to think .. I studied French in high school and college ...LOL!

LOL I know what you mean.
Try 6 years of French in elementary and high school! But of course I remember most of the other animals in the barnyard!! LOL

i think it is the prime moment...we had the same reaction in our theater...like "DUH UH!"

you could hear the whole theather gasp in a united "dumbass"

the only thing missed on my behalf...i wish they kept the involvement of Percy Weasley in the storyline. He is in the film but not even acknowledged.

Yep, you're right! I recognized the character in a couple of scenes. I guess that subplot with Percy was too large to include in the movie ... or perhaps it wound up on the cutting room floor. Isn't there another brother too ... one who works with dragons? Been awhile since I read most of the books.

If you like Imelda Staunton (Delores Umbridge)in Harry Potter, you should see her Oscar nominated role in Vera Drake, a very powerful performance!

Ah ... That's who the actor was! I usually sit through the credits, but the group I was with popped up out of their seats the second the film was over. I thought Stauton was perfect. Cloaked in pink, the new black for evil, it was wonderful to watch as Stauton/Umbridge slowly but surely revealed considerable claws, emerged from the mask of civility.

*gasp*

You have an inside voice?!

*Smack!* Yes, I do:)

I made Brennan crack up throughout the movie. At another point, the character Beatrice LeStrange was making her mark, ranting and screeching. Brennan turned to me and said, "Uncle Neil, she looks so familiar to me; I can't figure out who she reminds me of." I let one beat go by, leaned over and replied ... "Your old girlfriend Katherine." (Katherine was this Goth chick who led Brennan around as if he had a ring in his nose. I was the only one in our family who could stand her.) The timing made it really funny:)

I am shocked...SHOCKED

What?

The head administrator of an institution is portrayed as clueless?? That could NEVER happen in real life!

Here, I thought Rowlings was a good writer...

LOL! Yeah, imagine that! :)

The fact that Dumbledore is an effective leader and administrator for Hogwarts demonstrates that the Rowling's books are fiction and fantasy ... :)

That is interesting that you don't like Emma Watson. She has never bothered me.
It is the kid playing Ron who always drove me crazy. But he was not bad in this movie.

From: [identity profile] mrdreamjeans.livejournal.com
I agree. The actor playing Ron was inoffensive. But when I think about it, he also had little to do in this movie. I wouldn't want the actors to change this late in the game, but Daniel as Harry has made a lot more progress than the other two in learning his craft.

I wonder if anyone else had trouble erasing the mental image of Radcliffe nekkid as this Harry Potter movie began. I'm not a dirty old man, but those publicity photos of him for "Equus" were stunningly beautiful and artful.

I presume you mean Warwick Davis head of the English dwarf mafia and hated by large number of small actors

Thank you! Is he hated because of his success or does he have the reputation for being an ass?

I have a feeling thats he's a born again christian fascist dwarf or something like that, and he's also turning in to the dwarf version of Mama rose in the way he gets his family into shows!

Sounds like success went to his head and then religion messed it up even further.

Thanks!

My response to Fudge was a very loud "Duh!!"

Definitely not in my inside voice.

From: [identity profile] mrdreamjeans.livejournal.com
I'm glad to know I was not alone in my response to that moment! It occurs to me, all Fudge had to do was show up and see Valdemort. We, as audience members, would register the recognition. He didn't need to say anything. We were way ahead of him.

Don’t you hate it when one of those voices in your head that needs therapy, rears its ugly head……before you can shut it up. I may have to borrow that line, when I go see the movie, DUMBASS......LOL That's what I was thinking when I read his character.

Date: 2007-07-17 02:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mrdreamjeans.livejournal.com
Trust me. Any response from Fudge is unnecessary in the moment. The audience is way ahead of him and so his incredulous reply becomes camp. I guess what made the moment so funny, was that I really had to have confirmation that I said, "Dumbass" aloud. My personal Tourette's moment:)

Enjoy the movie when you see it!

HUGS!

Well you definitely made me laugh out loud ... as they say, timing is everything.
Glad to hear you liked the movie - will try to see it soon.
Also good to hear you're finding time for some diversion with younger generation of the family. I've no doubt that as an uncle, you rock !
Hugs !
