Tangled Christmas Tree Lights ...
May. 1st, 2007 12:13 pmThese bits of wisdom from Maya Angelou seem very appropriate after last night's fiasco with Dad and AAA. I am hoping to be able to say that "I've learned" from her and applied it to my life. Enjoy!

"I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way (he or she handles) these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights."
"I've learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you'll miss them when they're gone from your life." (This is a hard one for me after last year with Dad.)

I have my compter on a drafting table, and use an office chair that's so tall that my feet don't touch the floor (...blah, blah, blah...).

Date: 2007-05-02 08:07 pm (UTC)Part of the problem I think is that my weight is up (not sure about this since I haven't weighed myself in about three weeks), and and I'm guessing it's a gain of about 5 to 7 pounds. Just enough to make things a tab bit harder on my joints. Plus I'm under slept.
I didn't do much to relieve the problem last night. For the past month or so I've been investigating using the SIMS 2 to do animation. I spent an hour or so on the computer here at the coffee shop, found some great game modifications, and down loaded 'em. It was about 11 pm when I left, and wanted to spend an hour or so playing around with the mods.
Swear ta' god, the next thing I knew it was 5am...

But what wisdom does the person *dealing* with these challenges gain from these experiences? Are they needed to gain more insight into life? Perhaps the challenged person gains more than the observer...

Date: 2007-05-02 03:12 am (UTC)How do I deal with that trio of examples? I deal very well with rainy days. Actually love them, especially if I have time to read and relax. I love the sound of rain. My only concern is that I might melt in the rain:)
*Lost luggage* ... In the early days, I would have had to have been peeled off the ceiling. So many times on tour my bag wouldn't arrive with me. I learned to proactively pack, carrying some items onboard with me. I learned to go with the flow and assume upfront that luggage would be lost or delayed. No stress if you accept it as inevitable. I improved ...
As to tangled Christmas tree lights ... I get frustrated. I can untangle them, but struggle with patience. Most of the time, I ask someone else to untangle them or I throw them out and buy new. Not sure what I learned there. *grin* Problem-solving?

RE: Tangled up...I think what you learned is what you stated - "struggle with patience". Some would say that patience is a gift, but I think it is a skill that people aren't taught. We can all learn to be more patient, but it takes practice. I don't know if it is problem solving, unless you think of it as delegating the problem to someone else to solve.
Keep up the good work of challenging ideas, people and things to make your world better, because we all benefit from pausing to answer questions like these.

rainy days: depends on the context. I tend to snarl because I like light, but in general I take it in stride.
lost luggage: hard to say if I've improved any. oh, I just shrug and deal with it... but that's only because I loathe travel so intensely that any time the luggage isn't lost I consider it a special blessing - LOL.
Tangled Xmas cords: in my teen years my bro and I were in charge of setting up the family tree: I was artistic and meticulous, he was mechanical and volatile. I remember a good deal of yelling, mostly at me... but you know, it's such a sweet memory. Now the tangled cords have become a reminder of how quickly time passes and how working out the tangles of life with family is really a gift in disguise.

Date: 2007-05-02 03:51 am (UTC)I actually enjoy traveling so much ... I am already missing it ... I hate being tied to one location. (This is separate from my home, my nest.) I need to travel the world and have this as a retreat.
One of my favorites ... "I've learned ..." is the one about keeping an open heart .." I've learned that it goes along with remaining a hopeful romantic.

Tangled lights are fun to untangle.
