Yesterday was a delight! [livejournal.com profile] texwriterbear made the trek out to Brenham from Houston. It was our first meeting and Sean was just as terrific as I expected he would be. We share a birthday, an interest in photography and a history of being from a small town. We also have many Live Journal friends in common. The conversation was easy and fun. I think we've each found a new friend! Thanks, Sean for driving out!

For those of you who can't get enough of [livejournal.com profile] texwriterbear, I took this photo of handsome Sean in Must Be Heaven, a local eatery.

After lunch, Sean and I headed out to take photographs. The Bluebonnets are fading as the temperature rises, but we managed to find a few pleasing photo-ops. (versus photo-oops:) We found some amazingly photogenic Longhorns and cattle. I always like to take cow pictures, as it reminds me of [livejournal.com profile] gotmoof's long time obsession. (Though secretly, I think he's run out of room for cow memorabilia:) I'm including several pictures of [livejournal.com profile] texwriterbear's and my afternoon in the countryside and a couple of photos of downtown Brenham destinations behind this cut. The remainder of the day's events is also cut for length.

Aggie Muster

After Sean left to attend the HRC Festivities in Houston, I headed to College Station and spent several hours with my sister. Yesterday was Aggie Muster. It's held every year on April 21 to commemorate those Aggies, whether former students, current students, professors or employees of Texas A&M, who have lost their lives during the year. A roll call is conducted. When the deceased person's name is called out, a voice from the audience answers, "Here". There are speakers, a 21-gun salute by the Ross Volunteers, Silver Taps is played in darkness only broken by a few candles and The Singing Cadets sing "Auld Lang Syne". It is held all over the world on the same date each year. I disagree with some of my university's sillier traditions, but this event is the one which makes me most proud to be an Aggie.

Sunday, April 22, Horoscope

Since [livejournal.com profile] texwriterbear and I share a birthday (though are ages are transposed numbers:), I am going to close with our horoscope for the day. [livejournal.com profile] becker_boy, [livejournal.com profile] pbehr, [livejournal.com profile] bigreddee and others who share March 22 as a birthday, you'll find this horoscope quite enjoyable ... knowing most of you. it's quite accurate! *grin*

Some are born great while others have greatness thrust upon them. You, lucky creature, have your feet in both categories. Acknowledge the star quality that makes you inherently you. Now, all you have to do is let it shine.

Thanks, Bob! I don't know if you will see this, but I hope your internal journey goes well and that you learn to make the choice to be happy. I'll miss seeing your posts. HUGS!

I remember that Texas A&M bonfire that ended in tragedy a while back - did they start that back up?

Howdy! After the 12 students were killed, it was suspended as you know. A Memorial has been erected to their memory. The university has continued to ban the Bonfire on school property and rightly so. I took a lot of heat from fellow Aggies for being so critical of the movement to have it reinstated. I worked it as a Freshman and it was a poor excuse to work around logs and fire while drunk.

Bonfire lost its real meaning of collaborative spirit (and Beat the Hell out of TU) many decades ago. It became more about building it higher and higher and at some point, the university ceased to supervise its construction closely, thus the disaster.

For the past three years, a Bonfire has been built at an alternate site and the push to get it reinstated continues. I continue to think that's a bad idea.

You're quite welcome!! I enjoyed myself too! It didn't feel like a first meeting, but more like a continuation. One of the perks of interaction via LJ.

Hope the HRC event was fun. After all, you were attending for two of us, Mr. Bear in the City!

HUGS!

Yes, I seem cursed with a knack for acronyms. Although nowhere near that of [livejournal.com profile] showmeonthedoll. But, in this case, it's so obviously, no - painfully - pre-ordained that the Gay Gods would never have forgiven me if I didn't coin it.

I mean, Nelly n' Moo? Or, Moo n' Nelly. Either way, it is so gay, a daisy in May would have blushed? :0)

Throwing you MOOing HUGS, darling!!! Will you please pinch the cheeks of that MN Mary Pritchard named monsieur [livejournal.com profile] perkk for me? Any cheeks will do!

Thanks, Jim! It's amazing to me that we're ending Spring flower season and you most likely are just starting. You and Randy really need to come for a visit. I've still got one curtain to hang which I'm saving till you do! *grin*

Big HUGS!
