It's dusk here ... the beginning of an end to a rainy day. I just looked up and out the office window in time to see a rogue dog get a royal comeuppance in the field across the road from me. The dog's a stray and harrassing a group of young cows. He's just turned tail and is running across the field like a golden bullet. The cattle, a surprisingly quick, agile and obviously pissed quartet of Black Angus, are in close pursuit. They really are going after him. Go bovines!! Go bovines!

Hmmm ... I wonder if [livejournal.com profile] gotmoof has been conducting agility and speed classes in a nearby pasture:) It might explain the cows taking such an aggressive stance. *grin* Mooooo with me!

Cows chasing a bully dog, well...

You know Neil, no matter if a canine, a bovine, or even a 2 legged person, a bully will get it's comeuppance sooner or later. :-)

I bet it was a sight to behold.

Yes, as a parent I think you are wise to monitor her viewing and the chat rooms she's in ... Of course, she's seen hour after hour of bear411 on a 52" television screen. No telling what she's picked up from that! LOL!

How did the three story move-in go? Did you have a lot of help? HUGS!

It didn't. I couldn't rent the crane. I needed a different kind of insurance other than home owners, and a commercial driver's license (even though I wasn't going to drive it). What ever. We just went for dinner and watched a movie. It was a small turn out, but a couple of people didn't show when I told them I didn't get the crane, and so they weren't needed as much.

Hello Neil, my name is Joe and I was wondering if I may add you to my friends list. I've admired your journal for a while now, and just this week I summoned the guts to become an LJer. Blame this all on Bruin, who introduced me to LJ in the first place and has been warmly helpful in getting me started. Incidentally, like you, I'm a theatre professional - though have never had the bravery to perform once the curtain is up ... I'm content to have wonderful actors roam the platforms, rakes, and stairs I design for them.

From: [identity profile] mrdreamjeans.livejournal.com
Howdy, Joe! Please feel free to friend me! I am honored that you've been reading my journal. For the first couple of years most of the posts have been about theatre, but lately posts about family and life in the country have taken precedence. Bruin was one of my first friends on LJ and I have been happy to get to know him through this site.

I have a couple of good friends who are set and costume designers and many, many good acquaintances on the tech side of things. In fact, most of the time when I tour in musicals, I prefer to hang out with the crew or orchestra rather than the actors. Less drama:)

I'll friend you back and start reading your journal. May you find the website as rewarding as i do. HUGS!

Thanks, Neil. While I found your travelogues of life on the road absorbing, I find your posts about family and country life equally interesting - also astute, and often touching and funny. I have no doubt that you're an excellent performer, but had I not known you were in theatre, I could just as easily guess that you were a minister or professional counselor ... you have the gift.
Since I'm replying from my email site, precisely where this reply will appear is sort of a mystery to me - I'm still learning the ropes. Fortunately everyone has been so nice that I'm beginning to shed my fear of bumbling my way through cyberspace.
Looking forward to exchanging comments with you. Hugs back !

I've already checked out your initial blog and really enjoyed it. I wish I could see the productions you've just designed in Colorado. Perhaps, [livejournal.com profile] septimuswarren who lives in Denver can check them out:) One of my most cherished treasures is a costume rendering from my friend Michael's National Award Winning sets and costumes for "The Taming of the Shrew". He won the award in 1977; the designs were part of his masters thesis. Michael has assured me repeatedly over the years that he's moved on in his designs and suggested I put it away:); but I hang the rendering (given during our time together) in a place of honor in every one of my homes. So, you see ... My first boyfriend was a designer. I like them:)

I'm charmed that you liked my first solo attempt.
I just dropped Septimus a brief comment.
Glad you like us designers ... it's easy to see that the feeling is reciprocated =0)

I haven't yet figured out how to post pictures on the blog (except for the tiny icon thingy's)... but photos of the productions do exist in my picture file. If you're curious and so moved, and would care to let me know your email address, I can send you some pics. As you well know, ours is an evanescent art, so we always need to archive our shows - those pics and the memories are all that's left once the curtain comes down.

My email address is nbadders at aol.com. I am spelling out the at symbol...

When you create a post, there is a small box above the top right hand portion of the space where you write. It should say .. insert. Click on that and you should be able to drop down to "picture". It will bring up a dialog box where you link to the picture file, select it and upload it to your live journal. It will code it for you. I am not a computer savvy guy, so I don't know if this just works for me or everyone. I'm sure others can help if I'm wrong. I look forward to seeing the pictures!! Thanks! YAY!

A minister??? Oh, please don't say that to Neil! No. This is a bonafied diva and forever will be (and, no, there is no such thing as a divO, Neil, so don't bother whining about that)

Welcome to LJ even if it's not *my* place to say so :0)

Oh my goodness ... I had no idea I might be tresspassing on his diva-ship. Thanks for putting me staight (which is likely as straight as this otter will ever get).
I took your charming comment with all smiles - and of course it was *your* place ... one diva should always stick up for another.
Thanks for the cheery welcome !

Oh no, I decline the Diva crowning, thank you. Too much work and not enough qualifications. Naturally, there may never be stilettos tall enough? But that's another story.

Well, now that you two have met .... LOL! ... Thanh, Honey, If you insist I'm a diva, then you've got to strap on those stillettos:) Joe, you've now met the inimitable Thanh! He hijacks my journal, with my permission, from time to time to challenge me, entertain me and to offer a point of view you will find no where else on Live Journal.

I love factoids. You mentioned 'grass harp' - also the name of a musical I've loved (nearly wore out the LP I had back in the 1970's). Is the term itself a regional expression - friggin' or otherwise ? =0)

My brother has a number of dogs on their farm - most of them just big galoots, except for the Auzzies, they can't stop working.

Some years back, when both my nephews were still in diapers, I noticed there were a couple of loose calves outside the trailer. They were being carefully attended to by Pepper, one of the Auzzies. I let my 'phews out to gambol about half nekked, and soon the entire mixed-species group were being herded about.

Neil, you must realize that you express yourself so well that many people cannot resist responding. That is wonderful--a true talent. Aren't animals generally great mirrors into our own lives? I guess if these four cows were black Angus then they cannot be escaped Holsteins from some Chick-Fil-A commercial. LOL I long for when Charlie and I can finally get down your way to meet.
