I Went to the Mall, Ya'll!
Feb. 1st, 2006 10:34 amWhat did I do with my day off in the outskirts of Columbus, Georgia? I went to the mall ya'll!! I ate lunch at the Piccadilly Cafeteria, got groceries at the Piggly Wiggly and waved at the Waffle House as I walked past. Everything we do from the this hotel means crossing a busy six lane highway ... no sidewalks or lights ... so far, no fatalities. In honor of February, I thought I'd start off the month with something cheerful, so here are my favorite photos from last week in Tucson!!

Date: 2006-02-01 03:47 pm (UTC)I love the St. Bernard's siesta but also love that last shot. The contrast of the teal and hot pink and then the reflection of the palms is sooo cool.
And just so you know, what you did yesterday was a form of mall ratting. :-P

Date: 2006-02-01 04:34 pm (UTC)SWEET memories! brought back to life, courtesy of your pics!
oooh oooh... another fond memory: growing up w/ 3 bro's and M&D, we'd take a vacation every year to a different part of the USA... sometimes, we'd go BACK to favourite places like Shelley's Cottages in Colorado... they had all sorts of fun things to do, and a VERY friendly St Bernard to greet guests!!

Date: 2006-02-02 01:22 pm (UTC)Warm down south?
There has to be some excitement mixed in with the end of a show. Now what is that tune from Best Little Whorehouse in Texas?....
Re: The joys of southern place names
Date: 2006-02-02 03:52 pm (UTC)"Twenty Fans Were Turnin'"? .. (also known as how many fans will be present at our show on Sunday night in Huntsville while the Superbowl is on ... They'll be turning to their televisions:)
"Dance a Little Side Step"? ... (a rehash of the State of the Union address:)
It's rainy and grey here today, but I went to downtown Columbus early yesterday and got some nice pictures of the restored historic buildings and the Chatahoochie River! It's entirely too bad that we are out in the suburbs with no wheels.
Re: The joys of southern place names
Date: 2006-02-02 06:17 pm (UTC)I was thinking probably of The Bus to Amarillo (which was moved in its musical context of the Ann Margaret production).
I do like Hard Candy Xmas but is that from the movie score?
glad you got out and got to see some good old thangs!
Re: The joys of southern place names
Date: 2006-02-02 10:11 pm (UTC)"Hard Candy Christmas" is from the original stage version and was movingly sung by the prostitutes in 8-part harmony. When the movie was made, Dolly took the song for herself. Bus to Amarillo was eliminated and replaced with "I Will Always Love You" which she wrote and sang in the movie.
I did tell you that "Whorehouse" was my first union job and I my first solo line was as the farmer who after having sex with one of the hookers sings, "I'm cummin', I'm cummin'! Thank you, thank you, Jesus!" (See only classy moments for me:)
