What did I do with my day off in the outskirts of Columbus, Georgia? I went to the mall ya'll!! I ate lunch at the Piccadilly Cafeteria, got groceries at the Piggly Wiggly and waved at the Waffle House as I walked past. Everything we do from the this hotel means crossing a busy six lane highway ... no sidewalks or lights ... so far, no fatalities. In honor of February, I thought I'd start off the month with something cheerful, so here are my favorite photos from last week in Tucson!!

He and his buddy, a German Shepard, were taking a siesta outside the church in the courtyard. I like the pink window because I caught the palm trees' reflection!

Those are cool shots indeed.

I love the St. Bernard's siesta but also love that last shot. The contrast of the teal and hot pink and then the reflection of the palms is sooo cool.

And just so you know, what you did yesterday was a form of mall ratting. :-P

wow ... piggly wiggly SO reminds me of my late grandfather who lived in Waco and shopped at the PW in Waco religiously ... and, they had a piccadilly cafeteria in waco, too which my grandparents ate at every sunday

SWEET memories! brought back to life, courtesy of your pics!

oooh oooh... another fond memory: growing up w/ 3 bro's and M&D, we'd take a vacation every year to a different part of the USA... sometimes, we'd go BACK to favourite places like Shelley's Cottages in Colorado... they had all sorts of fun things to do, and a VERY friendly St Bernard to greet guests!!

Well, I'm happy to bring back fond memories from you through the pictures. I haven't eaten in Piccadilly's often. I ate more often at Luby's ... especially since I dated the son of the owner back in the 70s:)

I so want a dog .... any time I see one now, I try to get a good photo.

Hugs!

i wanted an animal for a companion, and was gonna get a dog or cat, but I got Mike instead - ROFL

whenever you are in houston, you MUST go to Cleberne's Cafeteria!
beats Luby's, Wyatt's, AND Piccadilly's combined!

LOL

Gosh the Waffle House being mentioned brings back memories of times spent there while my brother and I were part of the Leatherneck Drum and Bugle Corps in Orlando. There was one right outside of the reserve center that we drilled at.

Thanks for the pics. I should mention I have bulbs that are in full bloom already. Amazing!

Just my luck ... Ya'll would come by to see Leatherneck drilling and I'd actually bring out video cassettes of a drum and bugle corps ...

Mark - Christopher ... Christopher - Mark ... Now that I've made introductions:)

Christopher is an original mind... his take on my being a poll worker was the vision of my being a pole dancer.

Warm down south?

There has to be some excitement mixed in with the end of a show. Now what is that tune from Best Little Whorehouse in Texas?....

"Nothin' Dirty's Goin' on?"

"Twenty Fans Were Turnin'"? .. (also known as how many fans will be present at our show on Sunday night in Huntsville while the Superbowl is on ... They'll be turning to their televisions:)

"Dance a Little Side Step"? ... (a rehash of the State of the Union address:)

It's rainy and grey here today, but I went to downtown Columbus early yesterday and got some nice pictures of the restored historic buildings and the Chatahoochie River! It's entirely too bad that we are out in the suburbs with no wheels.

So many life lessons in one musical score :-)

I was thinking probably of The Bus to Amarillo (which was moved in its musical context of the Ann Margaret production).

I do like Hard Candy Xmas but is that from the movie score?

glad you got out and got to see some good old thangs!

"Bus to Amarillo" closed Act 1 in the original production and tours.

"Hard Candy Christmas" is from the original stage version and was movingly sung by the prostitutes in 8-part harmony. When the movie was made, Dolly took the song for herself. Bus to Amarillo was eliminated and replaced with "I Will Always Love You" which she wrote and sang in the movie.

I did tell you that "Whorehouse" was my first union job and I my first solo line was as the farmer who after having sex with one of the hookers sings, "I'm cummin', I'm cummin'! Thank you, thank you, Jesus!" (See only classy moments for me:)

Ever eaten at a Waffle House? I actually rather like them. I much prefer good old fashioned DINERS to chain restaurants and fast food places, and Waffle House is about the closest thing to a real diner that you'll find in a chain. You can get a good homemake breakfast there at a really decent price, and the hash browns are especially good.

Yes Chuck, I have eaten at a WAFFLE HOUSE, although I prefer IHOP over almost any other breakfast type restaurant chain. ;-)

I ate in one in South Dakota one time when [livejournal.com profile] gotmoof and I were completing our double move from the West Coast and Pac West ... We're heading to Wisconsin and got stranded because the wiring on the U-Haul went kaput. I haven't eaten in the Waffle House here, but one of my co-workers has dragged several people over there for breakfast.
