MORONavirus
Mar. 18th, 2020 02:45 pmDue to the President's Racist Tweets today, I propose we rename the virus in his honor and call it MORONavirus. "Jabba, the Hut" keeps referring to the virus as the Chinese virus. Mr. President, words have consequences. Racism = unacceptable from you or anyone.

Here is a response from my friend Julia Levy to above tweet this morning:
"For all who are referring to SARS-CoV-2 as "Chinese Virus" or "Wuhan Virus" stop. I'm calling you out now for your blatant racism, willful ignorance, or just plain ignorance. I'm bringing this up now because Trump's tweet this morning was a trigger. Using these terms stokes flames of sinophobia. Yes, this viral pandemic started in Wuhan, but know that novel viruses can jump species anywhere, anytime."
"There's a scientific name for this virus. Use it, or call it the novel coronavirus, coronavirus (even if there are other strains), or COVID-19 for all I care, but at least those terms do not promote racism."
"As progressed as we would like to think we are in the US, East Asians are forever just assumed to be Chinese, even if not. I'm hyper-conscious when I cough in public at this time because of my Taiwanese face. There are reports of increased violent assaults and verbal acts against East Asians at this time."
"Please as a friend, be conscious of this. Good day to you. I'm going to go drink some coffee now. My mistake for reading POTUS tweets prior to a strong cup of coffee."
