Hitting the Road with Georgie
Dec. 17th, 2018 10:13 amIt's that time of year when I crazily jump in the car and drive between 2500-3000 miles to see family in Texas! The Christmas gifts are mostly wrapped and my bags are mostly packed for the journey/adventure. The house is looking festive ... and will continue to look festive in my absence.
My security system is working; my neighbors have been alerted and will be vigilant; mail will be stopped. Another neighbor has promised to make certain my sidewalks are clear in the event of snow while I'm away traveling. Two gifts ordered online, one on Halloween and one in early November have yet to arrive; I am almost certain one will never arrive as the purchasing process did not mention it was manufactured in China; I've received no updates and it isn't clear who I'm actually supposed to be following up with. Lesson learned. I will contest the charge.
Over the weekend, I attended a show with friends featuring a local drag queen celebrity named "Miss Richfield 1981". It was fun, campy, a bit naughty - a perfect evening out. Last night I celebrated an early Christmas with my close friends David and Jason at a retro diner before going to my regular Sunday night two-stepping. The guys gifted me with a lovely teapot with Cardinals delicately etched on the china. I love it! (I'm adopting Cardinals as my spirit animal, as a pair of these birds have watched over me since I moved into my home just over two years ago.)
It's back to work today through Wednesday with numerous mall errands to run around the work schedule. I need refills on my medications and Georgie's. (His bag is packed, too:) There's a handful of gifts left to wrap and, of course, last minute laundry. Fingers crossed everything, including Georgie, fits in the car!!
In order to make sure I see my entire family this Christmas, my routing is deviating from the norm. I'm driving from Minneapolis to Olathe, KS, then from Olathe to Little Rock, AR, Longview, TX and Pflugerville, TX. I should arrive at my sister's home on Christmas Eve. On the way back, I'm stopping in Dallas for a Christmas Returns party (This will be unique to my experience as all of the guests will be LGBT couples with babies!) and then spending New Years Eve in Oklahoma City with Live Journal friend
spikejrt and his husband Denny. Jon and I became friends in real life about three years ago. On New Years Day, I'll continue my journey home. My plan is to be back in time to rest a day before returning to work. I appreciate any good wishes for safe travel!
Happy Holidays, my friends, in whatever way you celebrate ... and a prosperous, healthy and peaceful 2019!!
