Though the election results in Texas, Florida and San Diego were disappointing (voters in a SD district re-elected their GOP representative though he has multiple felony indictments against him), I am most happy to see the House of Representatives move to Democrat control.
In Minnesota, all of the candidates for whom I could vote won their elections. Congratulations to these newly elected officials: Governor Tim Walz, Lieutenant Peggy Flannagan (who is Native American), Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, my congresswoman Ilhan Omar (the first Somali-American elected to Congess), my state representative, Fue Lee; to the new Minnesota Attorney general - Keith Ellison, State auditor Julie Blaha and MN Secretary of State Steve Simon; to newly elected MN congressman Dean Phillips and newly elected MN congresswoman Angie Craig, who is a lesbian, (both flipped Republican-held seats); and to Hennepin County's new sheriff, Dave Hutchison, an openly gay man in a same sex marriage!!!! (Did I mention my recently elected city council person is a trans-man?)
ALL DEMOCRATS!!
In other news, I woke up to snow on the ground this morning and a temperature (with wind chill) of 19 degrees. My semi-annual doctor's appointment was at 10:30am. All of my blood results were excellent and the visit went exceedingly well. I adore my doctor who is pregnant with her first child. I spent part of my visit advocating she name the baby boy Neil:) When I went into the appointment, my blood pressure reading was 136/88; I asked it be taken again when I was leaving the clinic. It was 123/75. Did I mention how much I enjoy my doctor?
We talked politics. :) She encouraged me to be cautiously optimistic.
Tonight my colleague Jorge and I attended a resident event at the apartment community where I was leasing manager. Our goal was to encourage residents to purchase renters insurance from our State Farm office. It was great to be back in my old stomping grounds, to see the folks there with whom I really enjoyed working. Jorge and I took five applications. So few renters understand how vulnerable they are when it comes to living in an apartment community ... The property owners are only required to make repairs to the structure, if there's a fire, flood or tornado; replacing personal beongings is not the responsibility of the management company. A renters policy for $20,000 coverage on personal belongings runs about $8.50/month. It's worth the protection and peace of mind, but few renters obtain coverage. My old apartment community highly recommends renters insurance at move-in; but, it's not mandatory.
I'm ready today, 11-7-18, to move on from the craziness of this election cycle!
