Early Voting and Other Errands
Nov. 2nd, 2018 05:52 pmYesterday was a day off from work, but I was on the go from start to finish! My day began with a drive to the Health Partners Clinic on the U of M campus to get my annual blood work done. Since it was an annual blood draw, they took 16 vials of blood and two urine samples. Since I fasted for 14 hours, I was pretty hungry by the time all was said and done. The phlebotomist was quite skilled. I didn't feel a thing.
Second errand of the day was to early vote. I had carefully studied the ballot ahead of time, so my choices on the lengthy ballot were clear to me. I must say, it was an inspiring task. Just ahead of me in line to vote were about 20 Somali-Americans. The early voting staff were quickly available to answer all questions and were really kind to all of us. I accidently left my readers in my car; the head guy heard me mention it to my registrar and came back with a pair of readers for me to use. So thoughtful! (Trying to read my drivers license number had been quite difficult just prior to getting my ballot.)
So many of us take the right to vote for granted and don't exercise the right. It was clear the folks around me were excited to be voting, to be American citizens and they certainly weren't taking it for granted! Voting matters! Especially now!! I tried to say hello to seekerval as I was leaving and missed her. The ladies I spoke to said she was at lunch. (Val, just know everyone smiled when I asked for you. You're appreciated by your co-workers and lovingly identified by your hair!)
My final task of the day was to rake up the leaves in my backyard and bag them. I have two trees - an oak and a river birch in the back; my neighbor's ash tree is so huge, it drops leaves in four yards. When I was done, I had 15 large paper bags filled with leaves. It was urgent to accomplish it today, as we're headed for a weekend of dropping temperatures and increasing chances of rain; by Tuesday, the high is forecast as 29 degrees and there's a possibility of snowfall on election day. Right now, I'm barely able to move. My body's all achin' , but it's nothing a little Ibuprophen won't cure.

Date: 2018-11-03 12:08 am (UTC)16 vials of blood? OMG--that seems excessive! I think the most I ever had was 4 vials done.
