I watched Jon Stewart tonight. His special guest was Senator John McCain. Surprisingly, McCain seems to have a sense of humor and sense of the absurd:)

Stewart was skewering Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. (Easy to do.) Clips were shown of "Shrub" saying that Rumsfeld was the best Secretary of Defense in history (gag reflex engaged:) The show played parts of Rumsfeld's testimony during the hearings about the infamous photos of American abuse of Iraqi prisoners. To me his testimony underscored his unimpressive performance as a member of Junior's administration. You can't deny the horror of the pictures coming out... but he tried, by trying to shift the attention.

Unfortunately, Rumsfeld tried to deflect the criticism of his bureaucracy by ranting/suggesting that the real problem was people with digital cameras taking photos, documenting the abuse and selling the photos to the media before the administration/his department could review them.

In his inimitable style, Stewart said, Our military couldn't find weapons of mass destruction, so now it's searching for "weapons of mass documentation". Funny stuff - sad state of affairs.

On a totally separate note - I saw where a friend of mine has been nominated for a Tony. Raul Esparza was Che on the last national tour of "Evita" that I did in 1998-99. Since then, he's appeared on Broadway as Riff-Raff in "Rocky Horror"; as the lead in Jonathan Larson's "Tick, Tick, Boom, Boom"; as the lead in the Kennedy Center Revival of "Sunday in the Park with George" and I'm sure other things I don't know about.

He is now in "The Normal Heart" on Broadway. His nomination is for best featured actor in a musical for "Taboo". It is particularly gratifying to see this recognition/nomination come his way, since he is one of the nicest, most talented and deserving guys you'll ever meet. I'll be rooting for him in June:)
