I headed to Ralph's Barbershop in Sealy yesterday for my second buzz cut. Now that I've gotten used to it, I'm really liking how my hair (or lack thereof) looks and how easy it is to maintain. I believe I'll stick with the style for awhile.

During my stint in the chair, the desultory conversation centered around the weather. Here in the Houston area, we've been inundated with rain; in fact we've had about 4 inches of rain in a 12-hour period ... two days in a row. It's been a wet winter in general after several years of drought. I've noticed that ranchers in my area have been putting out massive bales of hay for their cattle for months. As someone who doesn't raise cattle, I was a bit confused. We've had more than our share of rainfall ... the pastures are green ... So, I asked one of the old ranchers in the shop who was waiting his turn for the clippers ... Why are you feeding extra hay when your pastures are full of grass?

The answer surprised me. The ole geezer told me that wet weather produces pastures full of clover. The cattle were fed supplemental hay to prevent bloating. In the world of Southeast Texas ranchers, clover equals bloated stock. Who knew? *grin* I guess the message is that it's okay to be rolling in clover; it's good luck to find a four-leaf clover, but if you're a cow, it just gives you bloat:)
