I just returned from our Thursday night performance. It was full of eccentricities, but overall was an excellent show. Our two days of rehearsals, one a put-in for Kate Manning (one of the Eva understudies) who normally plays the Mistress, and the one today, a clean-up, resulted in a really tight show. The odd happenings were from technical glitches, mostly noticeable to the cast.

We had a blue light that cast a large circle center stage which would not go out. It's one of those verilights that is computer programmed to follow people without an operator. With it stuck, it felt like a blue light special from K-Mart:) It did eventually go out, but there were three or four scenes where there were no blackouts for entrances and exits at the beginnings and endings of the scenes.

There were other lights which were not working properly; one of them, a bright white spot, has been on me for 2 1/2 performances instead of Eva. As much as I like a hot spot on me, it was wrong. I'm not the center of attention during "Don't Cry for Me Argentina". I knew it wouldn't last long and it didn't. However, the offending light changed focus mid-scene and was distracting. Meanwhile, I was back to my normal under-lit self:) Also, throughout the performance, we could hear the steam heat backstage working overtime, clinking and clanking to keep up with demands. Lots of distractions to be dealt with, but the cast stayed focused.

WonderboyMI (Brian) saw the show tonight with his friend Joe. My comp tickets for them turned out to be third row center, so they were really in on all of the action. Joe commented on the sweat flying off Che and also that several of the men in the cast were very attractive:) Brian said all of the men had cute butts, that Kathy was better than he thought she would be and that he really liked it:)

The handsome Brian and distinguished Joe met me backstage after the show and gave me a ride back to the Renaissance Center for which I am very appreciative. I'll take this moment to wish Brian an early Happy Birthday! (It's Tuesday of next week:) I hope the evening out will kick off his birthday celebration!

After staying in most of this week, I'm going to finish my Christmas cards and shopping (Brian said he'll take me shopping here since there is very little downtown) before we leave here on December 12; some of the cast is going to do a benefit tomorrow night for a local AIDS organization called WAGS, which helps PWAs take care of their pets; Joel Briel and I are going to tour the Ford Museum and Village in Dearborn on our off-day - Monday.

I hope to see the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular at the Fox Theater at a weekday matinee, as I've played the Fox Theaters in Atlanta and St Louis and would like to at least see this one inside. Finally, I plan to repack, rearrange and lighten my luggage for the trip to Green Bay. We're on puddle-jumpers to Green Bay, then bus to Appleton, Wisconsin. I don't want my desire to carry too much stuff on tour to be a reason that the plane can't lift off:) Meanwhile, I'll just hope that our light problems get solved and that there are no more blue-light specials!
