Heading into the Holiday
Nov. 24th, 2004 10:28 amIt is not fun to do a show when your lower back is in spasm. I've stretched as often as possible, downed beau-coup ibuprofen and stood a lot more than normal (sitting hurts). I was able to make it through the show last night; but throughout the night, couldn't turn over in bed without pain. It will ease up in a day or two... I'll do the show tonight, but it's not the way I want to go into Thanksgiving. Arrgh!
On a completely different and much more positive note, today is my parents' 53rd anniversary. Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad (Jim and Betty)!!! I love you dearly and honor your years of commitment and care for each other. May you share many more years of good health and happiness with each other and your dedicated family!
Thanksgiving has always been a holiday bump on the road to Christmas for me. My mom doesn't like to cook. (She's a baker:) When we got to a certain age, Thanksgiving became a day to hold a tailgate picnic of ham sandwiches and potato salad at the Texas A&M-Texas football game or to have a ham dinner (She doesn't like turkey) and then take the horses out for a ride. I've always thought Thanksgiving was yet another excuse to overeat. I've tried instead to give thanks year round for the people and blessings in my life. I don't need a separate holiday to do that:)
This year my sister, husband and daughter will be on a Christmas cruise with her husband's family and will miss our most important holiday with us, so the rest of my family will be getting together tomorrow to celebrate my parents' anniversary and the day of thanks. I'll be spending part of the day with the cast/company. The company is paying for a dinner at a local restaurant in the early afternoon and then I'll most likely spend the remainder of the day alone.
Perhaps I'll take that time to reflect on how blessed I am to have made new friends on Live Journal and to wish that all of you have a Happy Thanksgiving with your friends and family. If you are truly lucky, they are one and the same.

Date: 2004-11-24 09:12 am (UTC)It's too bad you can't be with family on Thanksgiving, but you seem to be able to find "family" wherever you are -- and you're in the land of the first Thanksgiving. And your tailgate T-Day reminds me of the few Christmases I spent at my brother's in Florida -- walking on the beach in shorts on Christmas day. Nontraditional! :)

Date: 2004-11-24 09:12 am (UTC)Try stretching your back, by kneeling on the floor, then lower your shoulders to press against the floor, while still kneeling with your thighs upright. [Your hands should be free and yours arms should be comfortable, I find length wise against my legs is best - like along my shins.] Then arch your back to stretch it- particularly your lower back.
I think I've shown you this before too, so you hsould remember it.
Have fun tomorrow!

Date: 2004-11-24 09:52 am (UTC)Anyhow, have a great Thanksgiving tomorrow with cast and crew. Glad we can think outside the box when it comes to finding family. :-)
Glad your parents made it to their 53rd Wedding anniversary. My parents would've had theirs this past march if my Dad hadn't passed on in 1998.
Take care and HUGS.

Date: 2004-11-24 09:03 pm (UTC)I get home on December 20 and will be home through Christmas day. We do have some open weeks in this contract. In addition to Christmas, I now have the last two weeks of January off and the first and third weeks of February. After that, the schedule is much fuller. We play Washington DC the second week of January. I look forward to seeing you, whether it be mall shopping or tripping the light fantastic:)
Ah, the A&M game
