Kow Sighted on Broadway...Stops Traffic...”Moo with Me”, he insists....

As many of you know, the Divine Bovine has escaped his home pasture and is currently residing on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Tim arrived late Tuesday night with the caring assistance of [livejournal.com profile] vernnyc, who met the visitor from Wisconsin at JFK and guided him from the airport to Penn Station and the Subway to his temporary housing. Many thanks to the thoughtful Vern!

My rehearsal schedule has picked up pace and so have my evening activities since Tim arrived. In a matter of four days, we have done two more run-throughs of Act One and completed the staging of Act Two today. Wednesday was a fun day with scene work in the morning and then a camera crew following Hal Prince in our afternoon rehearsal.

Hal chose “Goodnight and Thank You” for filming; it’s the number where Eva sleeps her way to the top metaphorically through the use of a revolving door and revolving lovers. It’s the main number in which I’m featured, so it will be interesting to see if I make the documentary. In prior opportunities, I’ve always been just about ready to sing when they cut away to a voiceover, so I’m not expecting much:)

However I did ask, and received permission, to take some candid photos of Hal working with us and one of Hal and Larry. Fingers crossed, that they come out well! One other interesting item from that rehearsal was to hear Hal directing the actors playing Eva and Peron in the lead-in to “New Argentina” which closes Act One. It’s a post-coital sequence; Eva and Peron are in bed smoking; Hal told Kathy and Phil to play it like “the Macbeths in bed”.

Tiim’s been celebrating a most excellent birthday week. In addition to day time lunches and activities with friends, he saw the musical “42nd Street” on Wednesday afternoon; we saw “Wicked” last night; and tonight, on his actual birthday, “Hairspray”. With “Wicked” and “Hairspray", we were in house seats, so we were about 13-14 rows back in the orchestra in the center. Yay!

Both shows were excellent with Idina Menzel, George Hearn and Carol Shelley stand-outs in “Wicked” and Bruce Vilanche, Todd Sussman and the young woman playing Tracy Turnblatt doing inspired work in “Hairspray”. Both shows were sold out at $100 a ticket, but really worth it.

Tim and I are really enjoying hanging out together just like old times. We’ve had some great Thai and Sushi (for Tim) dinners, have walked all over the city, strolling past Radio City, Carnegie Hall and parts of Central Park. I know he really enjoyed a tour of lower Manhattan and the Village with other friends; and he got to see my friend Mary from the last tour of “Evita” (who met him from when we were a couple).

I woke Tim up today with a noisy Happy Birthday and a birthday card with a cow dressed as Marilyn “Moo”nroe, saying Happy Birthday, Mr. President! My folks have called in their wishes and he has received numerous celebratory greetings from friends and family online and by phone today. All in all, I think it’s a good thing from time to time to let the Kow stroll Broadway. So... as Tim’s birthday comes to an end, I ask you to “Moo with me!” in honor of our friend!
