Tropical Heat Wave
Sep. 17th, 2004 11:28 pmI arrived in Austin at 7:30pm as scheduled. All of the flights were early, I was able to get the seating I wanted and had mostly pleasant seating companions. I kept switching with no time in between flights, so food for the day was two bags of wheat-thins and a Slim Fast bar. The best news though is that I didn't get bumped at any portion of the travel. I was on a non-revenue ticket, so it could have happened at any time.
The big difference, on the trip between Seattle and Austin, was temperature. It was 50 degrees in Seattle; 82 degrees when I landed in Sacramento; 100 degrees when I arrived in Phoenix and over 90 when I arrived in Austin in the early evening. It is very hot and humid and it seems to stem from air pressure systems being pushed our direction by hurricanes Ivan and Jeanne.
The only downside to the day, other than I'm already missing folks in the Bay Area and Seattle, is that my bags didn't arrive with me. They didn't make the switch in Sacramento, so I'm at my sister's home tonight instead of sleeping in my own bed. The bags just arrived at 11:30pm, four hours after I made it to Austin.
However, I am really going to miss the cold of Seattle. Texas is a sauna.
