[livejournal.com profile] clamprior_mary writes .. "How goes the packing?"

The packing .. Well, let's just say I'm very tired. I rented a third climate-controlled storage unit yesterday. Over a five-hour period, I moved about 40 boxes from the unit I've had for 5 years (after I went through each box). I divided the "stuff" by "stays in storage", (I hope to have a garage sale in April after the theatre gigs), "goes to trash" (mostly tax records back to 1984:) or "to be donated". (The donated pile included 20 pairs of jeans in four sizes!) I'm also looking at what goes with me to Seattle, what will go with me to Minneapolis next year and what will stay in Texas indefinitely.

My 76-year old mother is doing what she can to assist me, but no one else is around to help. I will hire movers. The move has been complicated by the fact that the buyer casually told me last Sunday that we will close on October 22, this coming Wednesday! I have no confirmation of this date from anyone official and it is three days earlier than my agent and I suggested. I am okay with that date, but I am reluctant to dismantle the house until the date is firm. I have to arrange to take the time off from work; yet, I'm expected to be out by the closing? What do I tell the movers?

My real estate agent told the buyer's agent that I needed till Sunday, October 26 to clear out, because of the moving target date and a lack of concrete answers. She replied, that I'd have to pay for those four days. Uh, no! (The buyer told me that he'd work with me.) I think everything is going to be fine, but it's difficult to plan.

How's that for a long-winded answer? :)

As to the furniture and belongings currently in my house .. Most of the furniture is going to storage, key antiques and art are to be placed in my parents' home. I'm trying to keep the "stuff" going to Mom and Dad's to a minimum, as I expect they're headed to assisted living in 2009. It's hard to move alone; but then again, no one is telling you what to do:) ... I can't help but wish that [livejournal.com profile] gotmoof was here to help. Tim and I have assisted each other in multiple moves, a couple of them cross-country. It's nice to know, that whenever possible, we're there for each other when it really counts. A friend who will help you move is a real friend.

Seattle, here I come! Minneapolis, here I come!

I have no wisdom about moves. I hate them and my need for controlled packing comes to the fore. I do wish you have someone to help because it really does make a big difference even in the state of your soul while doing all this.

The 20 pairs of jeans in 4 different sizes: I can relate! LOL

Good luck for the moving.Everything will turn out to be fine for sure. It is always a lot of pressure to move but just think about the bright future in the new place! Really exciting adventure in the front you!

Isn't the closing datementioned in your contract?

If you can stay on..that would be great. On the other side of the coin...I try to avoid that situation whenever I sell a house or buy a house..becuase of the potential legal and insurance implications

(forinstance..ridiculous examples..if you hurt yourself in the house after closing you can legally sue the new byers..even though they have never moved in. And damage or fire..who pays for that..)

But..hey..thats me and my buying and selling of over 20 hosues over the years..speaking.

But anyway...good luck and I am sure everything will go smoothly

"Friends help you move. REAL friends help you move bodies."

*sigh* [wiping away tear of laughter]

Sorry. Couldn't resist. One of my favorite lines.

Look on the bright side ... you're about to provide me with a great excuse to fly up to Seattle. :)

Hugs!

The longer you are in a place the more stuff you manage to collect! When I moved to Seattle from Houston back in 1993 I moved from a house into a shared apartment. I put the majority of my stuff in storage thinking that it'd only be a few months before I actually got a place of my own and I could use all the stuff I brought (a full house of furninture, accessories and junque.) Well, it was 2002 before I actually got a place of my own. With what I paid for the off-site storage I could have bought all the stuff that I put in storage! :)

Do you know when or where you'll be moving and where to in Seattle?

I'm coming to Seattle just to do two shows .. not moving back up. I'm still trying to line up a temp housing situation .. two seven week gigs .. November 7 to January 1 and mid-February through March 29. Between, I'll be looking for work and a place to live in the Twin Cities.

One of these days, I'll be fortunate to have someone at my side as you have. You're blessed, my friend .. blessed. I look forward to more stories of the new adventure in Boston.

HUGS!

I'll check out the route you've mentioned here and see what I can do. My other options are, of course, I 10 all the way to LA and then I 5 North to Seattle .. the third option would be to fly if I can secure affordable housing in Seattle within walking or busing distance of the rehearsals space and theatre. I've got housing lined up for Feb, but not finalized for Nov 7.

HUGS!

I'm trying very hard to focus on the good .. .very hard to do when you are as tired and sore as I am today. I called my brother today to chat a bit and he was distracted and uninterested .. he was skinning a deer when I was talking to him!

I haven't seen a contract as yet. This is why I've been reluctant to pack up. As far as I'm concerned, it's all hearsay until I get a confirmed closing date. I know we're a small town, but this is ridiculous. I may have to take a couple of "sick" days Monday and Tuesday and just get the move accomplished.

I appreciate you sharing your wisdom and experience. This is my 3rd house purchase and sale, though the middle one was a new house I built and subsequently sold. Each time has been an annoying occasion. I swear I'm not purchasing again. I just don't like carrying the load alone.

Thanks, Tony, for your support! HUGS!

What an adventure ! if I were anywhere near there I'd certainly help pack (last move involved ten bookcases worth of books - a few of the unpacked boxes are still lurking about here and there - LOL).
So the best I can do is get out my cheerleading pom-poms, hop into some gym shorts, dye my beard red, and jump up and down yelling "Gimme an 'M'...gimme an 'R'... gimme a 'D'...gimme a - oh you get the idea ... [stop laughing - keep packing !]
Big Hugs!

Now, that's a visual! :) Hope you've worked your way through the majority of your workload and that you get to have a bit of quiet time before the week starts all over again. I'm headed to Houston in less than an hour. I'm the weekend manager for Sunday, this time per the schedule. When I did it three weeks ago, it was to fill in for another employee.

I may have to take the next couple of days as sick days. There is no other conceivable way I can get out of my house by Wednesday. I have worked very hard, am organized, but I can't lift all of the major furniture pieces by myself, Thanks for your offer of help and the smile ...

HUGS!

I'm a Force to be reckoned with, very much like duct tape. You know, it has a light side and a dark side and it holds the universe together.
