Thanks to gotmoof (Tim), I signed on to livejournal a year ago...August 11, 2003. Who knew, as I was visiting him in La Crosse, that my simple question, "Whatcha writing?", would lead to the creation of my journal and a pastime that has brought me great satisfaction, the special joy of making new friends and a creative outlet for my thoughts and feelings.
As I am wont to do, I looked at my LJ calendar and gathered the statistics from my year of journaling. I wrote 7 posts in 2003: 4 in August, 2 in September and one in October. I didn't even check the site again until March of this year. However, once I started to write more frequently, began to add to my friends list, the numbers of posts increased.
I went from the three friends who were on my initial list...gotmoof (then known as baraksf), bearbrat and bluedevilsf to a list that has grown to about 45 people... journalers/journalists who have become an important part of my life.
My post numbers look like this for 2004: March - 4; April - 8; May -16; June - 13; July -27; and August - 25. With this post tonight, I have surprisingly written exactly 100 posts in the past year...though revealingly the last 52 have been in the past two months.
There are several of you, who though I don't know you personally, have enriched my life through your very personal sharing of information. I have learned; I've laughed at the inspired silliness and clever wit; gaped in amazement at the sheer talent exhibited in the writing, photos and icons; shed a tear at the real pain portrayed in the loss of family, friends and relationships; shared the anger at the politics of the moment; rejoiced in the rare success and reached out when it seemed necessary and appropriate. Isn't that what friends do? Maybe, the use of that label here on live journal has more meaning than any of us thought was possible.
I am looking forward to meeting many of you in this coming year of touring with "Evita". I will be in over 50 cities; surely, my life will be more palatable on the road getting to know some of you. However, I just couldn't wait to meet some of you, so as you may have seen in one of lowfatmuffin's posts today, I will be in San Francisco next week to take part in the Live Journal Convergence Picnic.
I'm a bit embarrassed by Bob's glowing words in the post, but hopefully you'll give me a chance to meet you and know you, as I feel like I do through your words and deeds. Many thanks for the kind comments that were added to Bob's post. I hope to live up to them. So, SURPRISE! See some of you on September 11 at noon or during the week leading up to the event in Delores Park!
