The song lyric and tune from Oklahoma ... "Oh the cowboys and the farmers must be friends" ... was floating through my head as I attended
texwriterbear's holiday gathering last evening in Houston. As Sean indicated in his post, it was the first time his friends in the bear and church communities had mixed. He didn't need to worry; nice folks are nice folks.
I was standing in the living room near the food table when two of Sean's straight male friends started talking pro football. I chimed in about the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre taking over the all time record for passing yards that afternoon; how the Cleveland Browns won their game 8-0 in a blizzard ... I had to chuckle at the expression on their faces. I guess Gay men aren't supposed to know about sports:) The two groups came together over the gift exchange and it was a truly fun evening. Thanks to Sean for including me! (By the way, I especially loved the caesar salad stuffed deviled eggs contributed by
goofycubb!)
One of the joys of the evening was getting to meet Sean's lovely lady friends and an equal number of handsome bears. Here are a few photos of people who love Sean, my "big bear in the city correspondent".

Date: 2007-12-18 04:51 pm (UTC)On the sports front, work as the same on going topic, which every. single. person. in. the. place! Except me. I don't think I have to worry, but I keep thinking at some point someone is gonna ask me...
The only response that runs through my head...?
I see your lips moving - and I know you are speaking English - but all I hear is "Blah blah blah..."
LOL
I am silly.

Notice how I understood every bit of the second part.
I am from Cleveland. One of the few things I understand about football, is what it takes to do it in a blizzard.
LOL

Oh, the Bear Men and the Church Folk Must Be Friends
Date: 2007-12-19 03:41 pm (UTC). There is a definite "look of Houston" in these pix :-)
. I was standing in the living room near the food table when two of Sean's straight male friends started talking pro football. - in a word, painful.
. I chimed in about the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre taking over the all time record for passing yards that afternoon; how the Cleveland Browns won their game 8-0 in a blizzard ... - I'll make you wear corduroy overalls and hold a shovel or whatever gardeners hold if you ever do this at my party!
. I had to chuckle at the expression on their faces - and how did they know you were gay? Did you look gay? Did you swish? Did you wear anything that would have suggested you were... GAY??? If so, WHAT?
Sigh, I would have liked to see the look on their faces when you comment on the family jewels of the various players - passionately as they do the football. But then you wouldn't do that. Would cha???
I, otoh, would have gone one step further and asked them if theirs match up :-)

Date: 2007-12-20 02:48 am (UTC)I really like to talk football ... I watch it all the time ... I look fetching in overalls:)
They didn't know if I was gay or not ... However, they didn't know me from church. At first, all the bears were in the kitchen and all of the church folks were in the living room. Eventually, the two groups began to interact and it was very fun.
I wouldn't talk about the family jewels of the players. It would be out of character, as I don't talk about the family jewels of anyone. They are precious just as they are encased in their bulging white jocks ... LOL!
AND of course you would have taken it one step further:)
HUGS!
