Casting About
Nov. 2nd, 2007 10:51 amI'm always on the quest for more knowledge. Today, I'm casting about for answers to a list of questions I've compiled. (It's time to get rid of all of those little scraps of paper they've been scribbled on:) For answers, I'd like to tap into the communal knowledge of my Live Journal friends. Thanks in advance to any of my friends who can enlighten me on any of the diverse topics.
As a guy who isn't particularly knowledgeable when it comes to information technology, my first question is: Is my two-year old G4 iBook advanced enough to run the new Leopard operating system? How do I know? Following up: Can I upgrade? What about my G4 desk top that is about 4 years old? What do you do with outdated computer equipment? I still have my G3 Powerbook and Blueberry iMac.
I'm quietly working on implementing better eating habits. I want to lose 40lbs. Now that the weather's cooled off, I've become more active. One of my downfalls is that I don't eat enough vegetables unless I eat in restaurants. I've cut back on eating out. Does anyone have a simple recipe for fresh vegetables that takes little time to prepare? I grew up in a family where a vegetable sidedish meant opening a can of pork & beans, peas or corn. I'd like to change that history.
On a similar line of thought, I am finding that tomato sauces are giving me heartburn, acid reflux. I love tomato sauces! Anyone have a tip for cutting the acidic effects of tomato on my system? I don't want to give tomatoes and tomato products up in my diet.
Back to a tech question: I do a lot of administrative contract work - mostly database, editing, writing, marketing when I'm not performing. In your opinion, what programs/ applications would be most useful to learn in terms of employ-ability? I'm looking for a leg up.
When it comes to gardening, I have the opposite of a green thumb. My coleus have outgrown their pots. I'm transferring them to a backyard flower bed. Any suggestions for a hardy, colorful plant for use in pots outdoors as we get further into Fall and Winter?
I was startled this morning by a red-headed woodpecker who flew right up to the portion of my house right next to my office window and started pecking on my wood house. How does one stop a woodpecker from pecking wood?
An LJ question: Can anyone show/teach me an easy way to wrap text around photos/clips in my Live Journal posts? I like the integration of the two, how it looks and saves space.
Finally ... Not sure what's happened, but there's been a positive development concerning the trio of dogs that were so annoying me with their incessant barking. They've been moved. I guess the barking was bothering the owners too:)
