[livejournal.com profile] gotmoof and I just got back from running errands this afternoon and Tim was playing around with my cell phone. He said, "Neil, did you know you have a bunch of text messages on here?" Ummm ... No, I didn't. I had text messaging disabled on my cell phone when I got it. I don't plan to use that feature anytime soon. There were 16 text messages on my phone going back to 2004:)

So, if you're a friend of mine who wondered why I didn't respond to your texting, I'm not an asshole; just a fuddy-duddy who would prefer to talk to another person on the phone, or better yet, in person. I can't imagine trying to type out a message on a little pad, trying to match the letters to the corresponding numbers. Sadly, it takes me 10 minutes just to enter a new phone number or name to the directory. My phone is not a mini-computer, a camera or any other of the exciting options. It's a phone.

I appreciate your thoughtfulness in thinking of me and if the reason for the text message is still relevant, please let me hear from you ... on the phone:) I may be technologically-challenged, but I can be very pleasant. LOL!

... And sadly, that's your shortest time, ever.

Oh heck, that's not so bad. I only found out a few weeks ago what a text message was! My new(ish) cell phone started making all sorts of noises and I hit a bunch of buttons and out it popped. Annoying. I'll have to figure out how to disengage them as well. So don't feel so bad about it.
Travel safe.

Ah, you remind me of a dear friend of mine. I was at a square dance, and she looked at her phone. "What's that little icon there" "You have a text message, Jane." "Oh, I wonder who sent me that." We look. It was me, 12 months before, letting her know I was in DFW and would meet her at whatever our final destination was...

I enjoyed reading your entries and your responses to other folks on my flist. May I friend you?

I'm glad Tim noticed ... The person I had lunch with yesterday asked if I had received his text message with directions .. I had the same answer ... Uh, No:) A couple of years ago, I called Cingular about a charge. It was for a text message. I was really clear with them. I didn't want any of the media packages active. I'm not paying for it and I'm not reading the messages. I've been told that others have had different results; but as before, all I want to use the phone for is to send and receive calls.

I hope you're enjoying your sabbatical. My trip to SF was the catalyst for all of this change.

HUGS!

Thank you for your kind words. Please feel free to friend me and I will do the same to you if that's all right.

So many of my friends are so tech savvy. They look at me like a favorite uncle who's a bit eccentric, but still fun to be around:) LOL!

Beware the cult of the square dancers! I happen to know for a fact that [livejournal.com profile] wooddragon is a square dancer.

Hmmm, I don't think of you as an "uncle"!

I've received just a few "junk mail" text messages on my cell phone. I do get a notice saying that I have received a text message, but I always have to hunt to see how to delete it. At least incoming text messages are free on my plan. I have yet to send any outgoing text messages. I'm like you, I don't want to play hunt and peck with the keyboard. So, you're not the only one.

Too late! Neil's absolutely surrounded!

Well, I can consider myself surrounded by the cult ... or I could consider it being embraced by the cult while retaining my independence:)

I thank you for not thinking of me as an "uncle". :)

Cult surround? Is that a dance move? Or more like sense-a rama? :)

HUGS!

What a relief ... I thought I was the only one who took forever to enter names and #s in the address book.
Mine doesn't take pictures either... with my cyber abilities I'd probably end up with a gazillion closeups of my left ear!
Hope your week has been merry!

Not only has it been merry, it's been Gay:) *groan*

Tim and I drove to La Crosse yesterday to check on his house, a full day affair. I'm continuing to network, fill out applications, to follow up, while staying in touch with folks in Texas. My mom's scheduled for an MRI today and is looking at possible back surgery. My house is getting quite a bit of interest. Today, Tim, who is off from work, is going to look at apartment buildings with me - a group I've carefully selected.

By the end of the day, I intend to make a decision on the Chicago portion of the trip. Even if I don't go there for the audition (running out of money), I still plan to come see you for a day/evening.

Before Tim and I go look at apartments, we are working on my brother's website and performing a wildly unusual task called earning money:)

HUGS ..

ps .. Don't be surprised to see this information almost verbatim in a post. You heard it first:)

Great to hear things are progressing apace for you - the housing, both selling in Texas and finding a new place in Minneapolis, sounds especially promising.
It'll be great to see you -
Meanwhile, keep plugging ... HUGS!!
