The presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden finally announced who is going to join him on the ticket as his running mate: Kamala Harris. I admit Senator Harris wasn't my first choice for Vice President. My Biden/Buttigieg dream stickers will be relegated to the trash heap of history, forever regarded as a moment of historical whimsy insanity.
I am glad the decision has been made. I can only think President Cov-Idiot's childish labeling of the junior senator from California as "nasty" will backfire (and yes, I am aware my labeling is just as childish, but I refuse to use his name).
Today, I am feeling hopeful for the future. It's an odd, unexpected feeling after enduring 5 months of bungled pandemic response. So, for those who are curious, just who is Kamala Harris? First and foremost, she's a formidable woman.
- Kamala Harris was born in 1964 in Oakland, California.
- Her father, Donald Harris, is Jamaican and is a Stanford University emeritus professor of economics. He claims to be a descendant of a slave owner named Hamilton Brown who was a Northern Irish sugarcane planter.
- Her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, is Indian and is a breast cancer scientist with a doctorate degree in endocrinology from UC Berkeley.
- Kamala Harris identifies herself as American.
- She graduated from Howard University and then UC Hastings College of the Law.
- In 2003, after working in several DA offices, she was elected district attorney of San Francisco.
- In 2010 she was elected Attorney General of California and then re-elected four years later.
- In 2016, she was elected to the US Senate representing California along with Senator Dianne Feinstein.
Dim Donald calls Senator Harris "nasty". For me, she's a source of hope and his worst nightmare..
