I had counted weeks and knew that my unemployment would be over after the period ending December 30. I filed on December 31 as scheduled. I expected a check for $700 to arrive in the mail this week. It arrived yesterday. The amount was $63. Since I had a combined wage claim for Ohio (tax home for the "Evita" tour) and Washington, administered by Texas, I couldn't check the funds remaining in the account ahead of time. Fortunately, I spent next to nothing the past three weeks and I began employment this week. It will be tight, but I will make it. Surprised, yes. Shocked, no.

My fortune cookie from last night's Chinese meal: "Confession of our faults is the next thing to innocence." Hmmm ... I have many faults and I admit to them all the time. I must be very innocent:)

My sister begins a job this Monday in College Station. She wil be mentoring student teachers for the education department of Texas A&M. It's not a full time position, but it will require her being in CS four days a week. Colleen's home is in the Austin area two hours away. She's sublet a duplex and is pulling together a temporary home in CS for the months she will be doing this. I'm headed with my nephew Ryan (he of the big truck) to help her move in. First we're going to raid my storage unit for furniture and decorative items to lend Sis ... items I don't plan to use in a rental myself. It's one of the advantages to having owned a three bedroom house. I've got plenty to lend and more leftover. When I'm done decorating, Colleen's unit will be tasteful and comfortable. Surprised? Yes? Shocked? No:)
