Mom was released from the hospital yesterday, ten days after her back surgery. I picked her up about 10am, brought her home and helped her settle in. She's sore, but the pain she experienced from the discs is gone. We were sitting in the living room last night when she let out a yelp of surprise. She unconsciously was stretching her arms above her head ... the surprise is that she hasn't been able to lift her arms above her head for the past five years, particularly the left arm. She did it with no problem ... or pain ... YAY! We don't know how it is connected to her November 8 surgery, but we're happy about it.

If you're diabetic, then skip my next few sentences. Some of you won't be able to tolerate the sweetness:) Just prior to surgery, the medical staff insisted that Mom take off her wedding ring. Even during two prior surgeries .. neck and hip .. she had not removed it. Mom complied and I brought the ring home with me. It was the first time the simple gold band had been off of her finger since Dad and she got married on November 24, 1951.

I asked Mom this week if I should bring the ring back to her at the hospital. She replied no. When I asked why, she said, "Since our anniversary is coming up the day after Thanksgiving, I am going to have your Dad put my ring back on my finger then. I think it will be a good way to celebrate our 55th anniversary. Don't you think that will be nice?"

Yes, Mom, I do .... :)
