Celebrating a Mentor
Sep. 7th, 2006 08:40 amI'm headed into Houston tonight to attend a concert version of "Fiorello". Afterward, Bayou City Concerts is honoring two people with lifetime achievement awards for their contribution to Houston theater. Marge Carroll was the star of my first show for Theater Under the Stars in 1977. Roger Alan Raby is a director/production stage manager who was the first person to cast me in a musical after college, the guy who made sure Tommy Tune took a good look at me which resulted in my first break (and Equity card), the tour of "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas ; ten years later , he was the PSM for the tour of "Mame" starring Juliet Prowse (one of my all time favorite gigs). I've worked with Roger dozens of times over the years and with Marge as recently as 2003 in a production of "My Fair Lady". It will be my joy to be part of this celebration. I wouldn't miss it for all of the world!
