Election Night in Boston
Nov. 3rd, 2004 12:48 amAs soon as our first performance of "Evita" ended tonight, I headed to Copley Square with Rachel and Victoria from the show. Kerry's campaign has a huge stage set up in front of the Boston Public Library and when we arrived there was much excitement in the air. There is a ring of policemen and women surrounding the Copely Square Hotel where Kerry is holed up awaiting election results. We were twenty feet from the front door of the hotel.
While we were standing in the crowd, we listened to James Taylor and Sheryl Crow who were performing in between cuts to television coverage on the huge screens. There was a huge cheer when California was called for Kerry. Since then, the news hasn't been too favorable for Senator Kerry, but I am still hopeful.
It appears Ohio will be the deciding state. I am very disappointed in Florida voters. I really thought they'd use the fiasco from 2000 and turn it around. I've decided not to drive myself crazy. I'm just going to bed and wake up to a winner. It appears that people really got out and voted and participation in record numbers is healthy for the process. Regardless, it is exciting to be in Boston on this night!
