Mom was released from the hospital yesterday, ten days after her back surgery. I picked her up about 10am, brought her home and helped her settle in. She's sore, but the pain she experienced from the discs is gone. We were sitting in the living room last night when she let out a yelp of surprise. She unconsciously was stretching her arms above her head ... the surprise is that she hasn't been able to lift her arms above her head for the past five years, particularly the left arm. She did it with no problem ... or pain ... YAY! We don't know how it is connected to her November 8 surgery, but we're happy about it.

If you're diabetic, then skip my next few sentences. Some of you won't be able to tolerate the sweetness:) Just prior to surgery, the medical staff insisted that Mom take off her wedding ring. Even during two prior surgeries .. neck and hip .. she had not removed it. Mom complied and I brought the ring home with me. It was the first time the simple gold band had been off of her finger since Dad and she got married on November 24, 1951.

I asked Mom this week if I should bring the ring back to her at the hospital. She replied no. When I asked why, she said, "Since our anniversary is coming up the day after Thanksgiving, I am going to have your Dad put my ring back on my finger then. I think it will be a good way to celebrate our 55th anniversary. Don't you think that will be nice?"

Yes, Mom, I do .... :)

That's so great that the surgery helped her. And her waiting to put the ring on is so sweet!

How wonderful for there to be some good news for you. And no, I didn't go into diabetic seizure - I think that's absolutely charming.

all of this is great, and wow! 55 years is something indeed to celebrate and in such a romantic way.
If this be sweetness, then give us more and more in this too sad and sour world!
(this 11/24 is my son's 39th b'day btw, the day he was born was Friday after Tsgiving too, and he's a sweet, terrific guy)

O, all the C&W songs are flooding in! :0)

. Bless her heart. She's a mama! Glad to hear there's no more pain.

. I wonder if after 55 years, she might not have had a flashing moment of "Well, let me forget about that ol' coot for a while" but didn't wanna say it? :0) Can you ask her in your ever diplomatic way? LOL

. YOU should sing Wynona Judd's "She is his everything" (or something like that. I love that song but can't remember the title right now) for their anniversary! O, what I'd give to hear you wail in an East TX twang!

Glad she is on the mend - I find it so hard when our parents weaken with age, but that's the way it is. And I think it's lovely what she wants do with the wedding ring.

You'd have to be a stone-cold cynic not to be moved by your mother's sentiment. Besides, I'm a sucker for romance.

Have a happy turkey.

(BTW...what happened to those pics from your visit to Mad-town?)

What makes the story so nice is that she's very sincere. My folks are old-fashioned, but in a very good way.

She's wonder in recent months if she was becoming allergic to Dad with all of his combativeness. But her being in the hospital and away from her home ... the absence has indeed made the heart grow fonder.

She's more sore today than over the weekend, but I think it's because she's challenging herself to walk and be carefully more active.

Thanks for staying in here with me. Your words always uplift ...

HUGS!

I understand. Between your father's ill tempers and your mother's health problems, I'm surprised you've found time to make any LJ entries.

I'll see them when I see them; I just didn't want you forgetting us.

HUGGAGE!
