To all my gay, male, friends of 50+ ...
Most of us are going through the next stage of our lives. We are at that age where we see the wrinkles, gray hair, extra pounds. We see the pretty 25 year olds and sigh. But, we were once 25, too, just as they will one day be our age. What they bring to the table with their youth and zest for life, we bring with our wisdom, experience and good hearts.
For all we've been through earning each gray hair... , bills and ills and watching our fellow gay men die from disease way too soon, paving the way for equality ...whatever else life brought you/us over the 30s, 40’s, 50’s, we are survivors... we are warriors... we are gay men. Like a classic car or fine wine.
While our exterior may not be what it once was, it is traded for our spirit, our courage and our strength to enter this chapter of our lives with grace and pride for all we've been through and accomplished.
Never feel bad about aging.
It is a privilege denied to many.
At the end of this, the post asked gay men (Greg's friends) to post a current photo and their age. Here is how I replied:
Last night at The Guthrie Theatre on the bridge overlooking the Mississippi River!
My birthday is in 6 days. I will be 64. I am proud to be a survivor. The outside may be aging, but inside I still feel like a young man, perhaps a bit wiser, definitely more loving (not so worried about notches on my belt), aware of time passing at blazing speed, with an even finer sense of dreaming big!
UPDATE!!! This soon-to-be 64 year old just passed his MN property and casualty license exam!!! Never too old to learn something completely new!!

Date: 2018-03-24 05:02 am (UTC)At 50, I was living in Seattle and really happy ... performing in Man of La Mancha!
At 40, I was on tour with "Evita".
At 30, I was living in NYC and saw Bette Midler in "Clams on a Half Shell" at Radio City Music Hall.
At 20 I was in college at Texas A&M.
60 was my mother's memorial service in College Station, TX. Who knows what 70 and 80 will bring?
