Come along and step back in time with me! Im looking at years ending in five starting with 1985. In 1975, I was still in college.

1985 - I began the year in New York City where I did several auditions, landing a summer production of "Sweet Charity". Until this gig, I stayed with my folks in Sealy, Texas and worked at The Sealy News as a newspaper reporter. I spent the Summer in Ravenna, Ohio where I had a role in Carousel Dinner Theatre's production of "Sweet Charity", directed by Joey Patton and designed by [livejournal.com profile] designerotter (We didn't meet until 2007:) After this splendid opportunity, I returned to my job at the newspaper in Sealy. Simultaneously, I performed in "Sugar" with Robert Morse and Larry Kert and closed out the year in my third production of "Annie", both shows at Theatre Under the Stars in Houston.

1995 - The year began in New Orleans in the National Tour of "The Phantom of the Opera" and though I can't remember all of the dates, I know we headed from New Orleans to San Antonio. After that, my memory is hazy. The entire year, I was on tour with Phantom.

2005 - This entire year, I was on the National Tour of "Evita". We started the year in Schenectady, NY, then Sarasota, Florida and Greenville, SC; I know we played Houston and Fort Lauderdale in the latter part of the year. In the Fall, we kept playing cities affected by hurricanes, in this case, Rita and Wilma respectively. We had been slated to play New Orleans the week that Hurricane Katrina destroyed the city, but the date was cancelled. I haven't been back to New Orleans since.

2015 - This year began with a nasty cold, from which I have recovered. I've been contacted twice this week by the temp agency and they are actively discovering potential work for me. I'd really like to get back to singing. I think I've got to open my mind and heart to the possibility that my future singing will be in a chorus, choir or work developed for myself. I have to be hyper vigilant for audition opportunities. This is going to be a good year! I can feel it. History shows that years ending in 5 are good to me!

So, what will you be touring in in 2015?

As I said in the post, I believe my singing from now on will be in a chorus, choir or perhaps in work I create for myself. I'm not in a city where tours are generated and I don't have the means to do New York auditions.

Sweet Charity at Carousel Dinner Theatre?? I know that place. And 1985. I would have been in Cleveland and CDT was a place I'd have gone to. I never did see Sweet Charity there, but geez...there were good chances back then that I would have gone. So close! LOL

Yep! It was the final season in Ravenna, before they moved the theatre to Kent. The other gay men in the cast and I drove to Cleveland a couple of times to go out to clubs. Once the show was over, I drove to Erie to see relatives I hadn't seen in ages. You would have enjoyed that production! It was well done and a hit for the theater company.

[livejournal.com profile] designerotter was the set designer for "Sweet Charity". We didn't meet in 1985, but through here. Joe came across a photo a couple of years ago that has me singing on his set and put two and two together. It made me so happy!

Personally, years ending in 8 have always been memorable years for me. Not all of them were positive...but they were all very memorable

1958 ... My first gay sex encounter (enough said)

1968 ... In college: The year that changed everything..the deaths of ML King, Bobby Kennedy, the shooting of Gov Wallace, the resignation of Lyndon Johnson, the first trip to (around) the moon..and the student rebellions..and Hair and the Age of Aquarius. Moving out of our apartment in New York City...into my first house in White Plains, NY.

1978 ... Promoted to 2nd level manager, moved into first BRAND NEW house in Yorktown, NY, disco, Saturday Night Fever, my first trips to California and the amazing gay scene that was San Francisco, the shooting of Harvey Milk and Mayor Moscone

1988 ...Built my own summer home in the Poconos. Promoted to Distict Manager

1998 ...Retired from AT&T, met Pete...and we spent the whole year together...going everywhere: Mardi Gras, Cape Cod, Maine, Disneyworld...but, especially, to Broadway, many times. Our first Broadway show date was "Ragtime"...the second was to see "Rent"

2008...the year of the financial meltdown and the election of Obama

I sincerely hope this year ends on a high note for you
