Stop Time

Every once in awhile during a performance, I'll step outside of myself, and find myself looking at the familiar or routine with fresh eyes. Tonight I had one of those moments. I was in the wings changing costumes 15 feet from stage. I looked around me at all of the guys changing clothes, ably assisted by the Atlanta dressers. My dresser was helping me into a double layer of costumes.

At the same time, over the heads and around the bodies of my male peers, I could see Kathy on stage in the scene which follows "Don't Cry For Me Argentina". A maid is helping an exhausted Eva out of the white gown. Che is sitting at the vanity and singing the lovely opening lines of "High Flying Adored". Time stopped for me. I thought, "I wouldn't trade this point of view for anything":) I love what I do.

Tonight was Rachel Cohen's final performance in "Evita". We were all teary-eyed as Bradley gave a goodbye speech for her and asked the audience to join us in giving her the evening's final bow. After the show, we went out to a Salsa club. There was a live band and we were having a great time, when a sudden electrical storm hit the city, dumping heavy rains. The Club's lights went out briefly three or four times. I told Rachel that we will always remember her going-away party as the "Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia":)

I'm sending a shout out to [livejournal.com profile] gotmoof who took a fall at home today and injured his foot. Tim, I hope you heal quickly and can get back on both of your feet soon. Meanwhile, enjoy the Vicodin:) Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] perkk who dropped everything to take Tim to the emergency room. Tim's friends thank you and appreciate the kind of man you are! Also, a short note to [livejournal.com profile] isitandlookout. You'll be in my thoughts tomorrow. You know why.

There are certainly moments in life where it would be nice to stop time, rewind and force a different outcome. I'm going to try to work on that bit of magic for myself, my family and my friends. Anyone got a wand?

I know just what you mean, I often think the best way to see certain parts of a show are from the wings

Yes, indeed!

yep! love them wings! Just got a note from the Super Captain at the Baltimore Opera Co. announcing the upcoming rehearsals for the season opener: Verdi's "La Traviata". No matter how many times I've seen this opera or the fact that I've been a super in it before, I've made up my mind and am volunteering for this production. I'll be in the wings most of the time -to the bitter end... the wings -the best seat in the house!

It is the best seat in the house and a privilege to have such an unique point of view!! When is "La Traviata"? By the way, it was good to hear your voice on the phone last week and to know you had recovered from the neck trauma! HUGS!

I'm home once again, so let me know when we can have our next conversation. I'll try not to be so shy and unaccessible this time. *wink*

Gosh, I'm blushing. Thank you. I guess I've grow accustom to the corporate kudos for little things of no import, that when something important comes along, it's taken for granted. With a friend in need, I don't envionsion how I could do any less. We will meet some day, you an I. Beyond the context of [livejournal.com profile] gotmoof, I suspect we have other basal elements in common. Be well!
